It's been a long road but, here it is - the destination. After MUCH MUCH research, consideration and even a little bit of guessing, I managed to choose a couple diezels to buy without having been able to play any of them, ever. I picked up a 2009 (in a 2007 chassis) VH4 and 2009 Diezel Schmidt. Time to sell most of my other amps, they are no longer required.
I apologise for the kinda poorly written sections of this post, I'm still a little flustered and making sense of the AWESOMENESS.
I would like to thank this forum and youtube, not that there are many great sounding VH4 clips of youtube weirdly (compared to how immense and incredible it sounds in person). However I was completely sold on the Schmidt thanks to Sebastien Wittmann at Guitars-Shop.de. Seriously, you guys should send him a shirt or something as his demo definitely resulted in the sale of 2 schmidts for Diezel
(my friend also got one, see end of post).
Onto the impressions. This is taken from what I wrote last night in a state of ecstasy on the ESP forum.
The schmidt seriously has possibly of the most beautiful, incredible tones I've ever heard from a guitar amp. I'm absolutely blown away. Like, WOW. Punchy, articulated, sweet, full, gorgeous - not to mention it has THE BEST REVERB I HAVE EVER HEARD IN MY LIFE. I'm not overexagurating either. It's unbelievable. The schmidt's footswitch is phenominal also. It's actually made out of painted black wood with the metal plate screwed ontop. The switches are beautiful also, I've never felt any switches like them, they feel so solid. Comparing them to my JVM footswitch, the JVM switch's are kinda springy and have a higher pitched kinda "click" where the schmidt's clicks are deep, strong and the movement is solid (hard to describe it properly).
The VH4 is an epic motherfucking beast too. It's extremely close to the tone I had in my head that I was seeking with Marshalls but only got so far before the limitations of a Marshall kicked in. These amps are ridiculously quiet, and they pack an incredible punch.
I'm blown away. Time to sell most of my other amps bar my TSL. I still have alot of tweaking to do and tonal exploration but from the 2 hours I spent playing them tonight, these amps have done it for me.
To add onto that, I can't get over how little noise are present in either amp. It's RIDICULOUS, surely a mark of its build quality. They're heavy bastards too
. Peter Diezel, I can't thank you enough for having made these amplifiers, you've ended a 5+ year search for the sound that was in my head which no amp could fully attain I look forward to future Diezel purchases, you can't regret buying a Diezel. I'd like to extend a sincere heartfelt thank you to all Diezel staff for all their work and help. I am so pleased with the choices and feel this constant need to turn the amps on and play, which is something I havent felt in a while.
My friend also got a VH4 and Schmidt, 'cept this VH4 has a 2009 chassis opposed to my 2007 one. I woulda liked one with the new faceplate but it's not a big deal at all.
