Thanks man! This was the first one i've attempted with my new recording gear. It was a success i believe.

Actually listened to all three and man, NICE JOB! The drums sound really good! Is this a V-Drum kit with samples/VST's or did you mic the kit?

100% micd and no click track.
Sennheiser E602-II on the kick
Audix I5 on snare
Rode M5 overheads

Nicely done, screw the samples if you can do it the old fashioned way! What was the recording setup like preamp wise and drum room wise? Recorded in a living room open space type of thing? I thought the vocals sat nicely as well and that the singer has really good tone. Well done!

Thanks! I'm running an Apollo Twin USB with an Audient ASP800.
We were all in the same room when recording. Standard small living room setup with no acoustic treatment. Amps turned away from the drummer and mic'd.
I used some UAD 1073 emulations on the overheads and vocals. SSL E Channel in post on everything then Waves NLS on the overall mix. Some API eqs where needed like on guitars to make them pop a little. Bass was split off into the Audient for a DI signal and processed with the UAD Ampeg SVT-VR amp sim. Sound Toys reverbs/ambience/harmony effects on the vocals.

Awesome. In an age where room treatment, $ preamps, and "have to do it right" is constantly shoved down the average musicians neck, it is nice to see people doing it old school. I picked up an ASP 880 last year and I gotta say, I love it. Nice and clear. The rest you can get done with decent mics and EQ in the box. It is a rabbit hole once you start shelling out big bucks for mic pres and other gear.

Exactly! I have a brand new Manley Core sitting in the box. Debating selling it.

Yeah I toyed with the idea of getting into 500 series stuff. Just seems like a HUGE money sink for stuff I may or may not be satisfied with, especially given how good some of the stuff like Slate and UAD are.

Don't do it.. honestly, I went that route and got a small lunchbox and a GAP pre and spent like 900$ on that. It does sound good but then 6 months later I picked up an Audient ID14 and ASP 880 and I have 10 channels of clear preamps with options to sculpt the sound going in on the ASP. For most of us, I would get something decent like a 4-8 preamp unit and have a decent converter and do the rest in the box. It just piles up and you end up throwing money at stuff because of the slight sonic differences. Unless you record seriously and record other people, I don't think there is a point in having all that stuff. It takes up room too and I think everyone already has a lot of nice gear that just sits there collecting dust. We are creatures of want vs need.
