So I just rec'd this body today and I'm going to start finishing it tomorrow. It's a poplar RGD7 body with RG7 specs. I was going to do an Ibanez vintage violin finish (similar to the RG2020/RG2027), but I think this wood is just too light. I already have a trans blue so that's out. What color should I finish this puppy?

It will have a rosewood fingerboard. I have a choice of black hardware or cosmo. Also I can keep the headstock black or sand it to just maple.

EDIT: I decided to go with trans black. Partly because of the poll and partly because I'm lazy and my black stain is pre-mixed.  Now I have to decided whether to use satin, semi, or gloss finish. I could also use tung oil over the black for a brownish look (I actually sold the brown guitar in the pic below). I also need to decide on black or cosmo hardware.

Tung Oil would look killer and it'd be a nice contrast to the blue guitar you mentioned.

I already have a tung oil on basswood RG1527. I like it and would do it again, but is not high on my list.

Nice rig!

Red was my second option. I'm actually stripping my Strat soon as my Lester finishes curing and I have no idea what I want color wise.

Don't think I've ever seen Trans Black look bad.

That said, if you didn't wet that before the pic, that has some grain for poplar and almost looks like limba. Thinking it would look good with tung oil if the grain would stay dark like that.

Based on your pic I'd say it's time to add a transparent red to the herd.

purple might be nice?

this is what I would do...but I get it that a lot of guys don't like purple

Red or black since you already have brown, green, blue and natural.
