So besides the little bit of stuff you see here and on my Instagram, and all the finishing I do for other builders, the other end of the candle is burning while doing this...
Just off the router table for the outside shapes, and the plunge router for the cavities and pockets. I just finished sanding the last of them and laid them out for a couple quick pics today. The two alder T-style still need to have the channels routed for binding and the binding put on. This was a bunch of work that took a looong time to get through while mixing it in a bit at a time with everything else. This may have also been the last of it for my router bits as they are getting a bit dull. I'll get the straight cutter for the table router sharpened, but the pattern and roundover bits are a bit more worn and the guy who sharpens them may not want to do it. I may be able to get them sharpened. if not, but will end up having to buy new ones before the next run as the sharpness is just not there any more and that means crappy looking routs that aren't crisp and clean. You can see in a couple of the cavity routs and in the trem hole of the strat the rout is a tiny bit "fuzzy". Still good. The cutter just opened up the grain and made it "fuzzy". It'll sand out though. The necks are already made, shaped, and are awaiting final sanding and frets
Anyway...
Alder T-Style: Going to be double bound in nitrate Ivoroid. Both are slated to have 21 fret maple necks w/rosewood fingerboards.
Ash T-Style with humbucker neck pickup: Both will have one piece maple necks that are 21 fret with a skunk stripe. At least one will be a butterscotch blackguard and beat to shit.
Ash T-Style. Classic 50's style T. Will have a one piece maple neck that is 21 fret with a skunk stripe. Maybe a '56 inspired burst with a white guard? A Blonde '55 "Whiteguard"? Maybe an Esquire? Rout it for a Floyd?
Ash S-Style: This is a really nice piece of wood. Haven't decided to go all mid 50's on it with a 21 fret maple neck, or put one of my fancy 22 fret necks on it with a Ziricote, Bocote, or Ziricote fingerboard. I have some killer fingerboards and a couple of nice pieces of maple. Or I could do a flamed Korina neck. Haven't decided yet. If I go all 50's on it, it might be an Mary Kay with gold hardware and an 8 hole single layer white guard. I may also swimming pool the strat pickup cavity. My original thought was "It's gonna be kinda traditional so just do it "regular". But now that I've had time to live with it a minute, I think I'm gonna hog it out. Swimming pool routs sound better anyway, so there's that.
Claim them now, mates!
