New cab day!

PXL_20241206_172253529.jpg

I just recently received this awesome vertical 4x12 from Zilla that I spec'd out for my VHX. I gotta say, the vertical 4x12 format with the kickback casters and handles is fantastic. I got this up two flights of stairs myself without much trouble, and it sounds amazing. I ordered it with four k100's, but I'll likely swap two of these for the v30's in my mesa cab so they have the same pairing. The k100 really does pair great with the whole Diezel sound character - now I get it. The two smaller cabs on the side are a pair of 1x12's that I ordered a few years back when the F12-X200's came out. These use the reference cab spec that Celestion published, and I use them with a Matrix GT1000FX power amp and my Kemper. I can't recommend Zilla highly enough - they just make great stuff. If you want a 4x12 that is pretty easily moved without a roadie, get that vertical 4x12 from Zilla. After plugging it in and giving it a karaaaang, it feels like the cab my VHX was waiting for.

That is exemplary!
I love K100s with V30s with my Diezel VHX and VH4.
I run a 2x12 with K100s on top of a 2x12 with V30s, and I love the tone.
Have fun with that beautiful new cab!!

That’s interesting, anyway you can post some audio of that set up? Looks really cool.

Sorry for the slow reply!

So I only really use this cab to play through. It does sound great, though. For recording things I go direct and use IRs. Before this amp I used a Kemper (and still do for tones that the VHX doesn't do), so I'm most used to that workflow. I have everything I'd need to record the cab except the microphones and more understanding neighbors so maybe I'll give it a shot. :ROFLMAO:

Over the weekend I spent some time pulling two v30's from my Mesa cab to swap into this Zilla one. Then they'll both have the same V30/K-100 configuration. As I've gotten used to the K-100's, I think they get a bad rap for being only for metal heads. Clean tones sound so nice through them - the same qualities that pair well with the low end grunt and high end kronch of the Diezel also work really well for sparkly clean tones at lower volumes, at least in my opinion.

That setup looks awesome, but I'm a bit confused as I'm not seeing a vertical 4x12 on Zilla's site. All the 'vertical' cab variants that I see are 2x12. Do you have a link to the vertical 4x12 product page?

I don't actually have a link - it looks like they haven't put that on their cab customizer yet. I reached out to Paul over there to ask about a detail with respect to ordering an oversized 4x12 and he mentioned the vertical 4x12 as being another option, which ended up working really well for me. So you can basically just send them a message and they'll work with you. One of the reasons I made this post was that I think more guitarists should give the format a chance. I think one reason you don't see them as often might be that your typical wider amp looks a little funny perched on top. But for the more narrow vhx and other similarly sized (or smaller) amps it's pretty great.

10-4. So what makes it 'vertical' in that case? Are the speaker arranged in an offset Z shape or something? Just trying to figure out what allows it to be skinnier.

Yeah, exactly. They're offset/staggered, so it's skinnier but also taller. Here's a sound comparison that Zilla posted a while back of their various 4x12s:
