Here's a pic of my main stereo rig. The 5150 combo is not hooked up.

But I just got a Marshall 2x12 cab over the weekend to use with my 5150 III and my 5150 combo for a smaller stereo setup.

It's nothing special but my lowerback is going to thank me. I'm only 38 and I rescently went to the doctor cause of back pain. He diagnosed me with arthritis in my lowerback! I was shocked. It's definitely from dragging around halfstacks the last 20 years. Got it for a really good deal at GC. Probably going to switch out the speakers in it at some point. I'm sure they are really cheap Celestions. Not in a huge hurry to do it though. I doubt the chicks dancing upfront will notice whether or not my cabinet has some Vintage 30's or cheap Celestions in it. I was thinking of putting the EVH Celestions in it since I really like the ones in my EVH cab and I have a feeling I'm going to start using this smaller setup on a pretty regular basis. Any of you guys sizing down cause of the mileage starting to add up? It's not the years it's the mileage!

Did not gel with the Marshall cab at all. It went back to the store. I decided to fork out a little extra and go with the Mesa Boogie Recto 2x12 cab with Vintage 30's. Much happier now. I really wanted an Earcandy cab in white to match my 5150 III but it was a little on the pricey side. I won't be using a 2x12 that much so it was hard to justify spending a lot on one. Maybe later on down the line.

Cool! I totally agree about the Marshall 2x12 with the EVH. I even put V30's in it and still not fully happy with it. I was thinking about the Mesa vs Bogner vs Port city 2x12's. Could you compare the difference between your EVH cab with the Mesa 2x12? I would like to find one that is as close to the 4x12 as possible. Also, exactly which Mesa cab did you get?

Really diggin the the Mesa cab. It's the rectifier 2x12 cab with V30's in it. I don't have my 5150III cab hear so I can't AB them. I'm leaving it at our rehearsal studio. But the Mesa cab sounds really good. Full bottom nice creamy mids and highs that cut through but that are not shrill and overbearing. It's a brand new cab so I think it's gonna sound even better once I break the speakers in a little. And man is it loud. I'm really pleased with cab and would highly recommend it. Oh, and it is built like a tank. A little heavy but it came with casters and a slip cover as well.

Which Marshall cab did you take back, the 1936? If you are planning to put some of those EVH speakers in a 212, be aware, I think they are only rated at 25Watts each, which would give you a 50Watt cab.

how much it cost to have the mesa cab retolexed to white to match that evh amp head ?? if you really like the sound of the mesa it wouldnt be too much i wouldnt think to have it retolexed

oh yeah happy NCD

It was the Marshall MC212 2x12 cab. Didn't care for it. I realized about the EVH Celestions after I posted that. Wasn't thinking I guess. The stock Vintage 30's in the Mesa cab are gonna work nicely. It sounds great now and once the speakers are broken in some I think it's gonna sound even better. I would like to use it often for shows but the guys in my band are gonna give me funny looks if I don't bring my big stereo setup when we have the room on stage. It's pretty rare when we dont have the room. Most of the places we play in Houston have plenty of stage room.

I reckon the 5150 III cab would sound great with V30s and EVH speakers in X configuration

HNCD!

That's a good idea. I'll have to look into it. Not sure who around town does retolexing of cabinets but there's gotta be someone here in Houston that does. Time to do some research.

Good thing you didn't go with Ear Candy. Glad you reminded me though, that sorry piece of shit that owns Ear Candy (Jeff I think it is) still hasn't delivered the 2x12's I ordered about 2 years ago. He won't answer emails or has more excuses than Kellogg's has Corn Flakes. I just wrote it off, but I may give him a jingle now and jack his ass up on a Sunday afternoon.

Damn, sorry to hear about your experience with them. Glad I went with the Mesa. Hope you get things worked out.
