I recently bought a new 2014 ESP E-II Eclipse.
It's a really great guitar. Great tone, and plays very nicely.
I think I need just a little bit of fret work to get the action even across the board.

But, this is about the volume and tone knobs/pots. Video clip included.
The first E-II I got had a VERY bad rattling tone pot, the volume pots weren't as bad, but they rattled too.
Sweetwater sent me a replacement E-II and those pots rattle too, but not as much as the first one.
All of the pots on 2 guitars have pot shafts with a good bit of play.

Please heck out the short video clip and let me know if those of you with CTS pots have the same rattling knobs, where the pot shafts have noticeable movement inside the pot body. Perhaps this is normal. But to me, it's not good quality.
ESP tells me that all ESP E-II guitars with passive pup's get these "upgraded" CTS pots.

Youtube link to video: I don't know how to post an embedded video into a post.

Is that the knobs clicking against the shafts, or are the actual shafts moving? Could you take the knob off and do the same thing in the vid?

Same thing I wondered when I first encountered it.
When I opened the case for the first time I admired the nice looking guitar.
When to fiddle her knobs and 'tink tink tink'.
WTF?

I checked the set screw, all tight.
Took the knobs off, YUP, shafts moving in the pots.

ESP says, "They're UPGRADED CTS pots. The Japanese shop says it's normal."
Oooooooookay.
I told the US ESP guy that he, ESP, and I have very different opinions on what is acceptable and what is an "upgrade".

I can't believe ESP Japan would let a guitar with those knobs out of the shop.
And they keep doing it, cause the second E-II I got had the same thing just not as bad, but still moving shafts.
Maybe I'm being overly sensitive, but I've only experienced a couple of knobs that had some tiny bit of play, not this much.

I had the same experience but with bare knuckle. They say it's normal
