Decided it was time to convert my TW express clone into something I could use at gigs. This amp really works well for what I play & I have control over the volume without any tone or sustain lose. I do play loud but nothing like an Express cranked up. With a Les Paul & one 2x12 cab w/ g12-30's it will nail AC/DC on ch-1. And with the same setup on ch-2 it will do EVH #1,#2#3. The fx loop is parrellel and is very transparent. I use it for digital reverb & delay. This amp works well with pedals in the front end too, wah's, TS 808's, DOD 250's, tonebone Trimode etc.. I will post some clip's if anyone wants to hear it after reviewing the schematic.

wishing you all a happy newyear!!
Dennis

Well duh....yeah! What, are you new to the internet or something?  Post 'em!

You might have to excuse the cold response. You should type Cameron in your post randomly, it'll get attention around here.

Same to you. Welcome to the board.

cool man, I've loved every TW clone I've played. Would love to hear a clip what you did with this one!

I like the channel two without the diodes. I like the idea of a cathode follower parallel loop! I have a beater kit that I might try this with...

Oh, what voltages are you running?

Duh, I saw the fine print on the schematic, never mind...

Sounds cool to me. Would like to hear some clips.

I think it's about time we set up an amp building forum here at RT.

Welcome to the boards Dennis!

:)

I don't see a grid leak resistor on V3a.

You may also want to put a bit of series resistance at the input of V3a.

Probably list Diode types on schematic.

Hey Guy’s, thanks for the interest in the amp. The clipper diodes are 1N4747 and there could be a grid resistor on V3a. 220k is a good choice if anyone decides to build this amp. I’ve got one clip done.
Here’s the run down:
Stock Les Paul Standard
Both master volumes are on 3
Presence on 6
Bass on 4
Mid on 5
Treble on 5
Ch-1 gain on 10 ( guitar volume rolled down for semi clean
Ch-2 gain on 5 ( lead tone diodes switched to on
ART Multiverb in loop ( reverb, delay and very little chorus
2x12 cab with G12H 30’s
close miked with SHURE SM57
FOSTEX VF-16 Trk 1 clean Trk 2 Lead
Audacity for mp3 converter
NO EQ or Compressor, just straight to deck & then computer.

thanks again for your interest,

That is simply awesome. I love the tone of the amp. And, the playing was impressive as hell. Great feel and touch.

I agree!, that sounded awesome!! Great tone, great playing!!, love the tone, sounded perfect to me.

Nice tone.

Now ditch that 212 and get a 412 with some greenbacks in it and you'll be swimming in tone.

simple and efficient circuit
I'd just stick with regular 22n CC's for the phase inverter and reduce the input resistance
you could lower the presence cap as well

This is the same amp posted under JOSE mod isn't it? Sounds just as good here too :) I second the notion of going through greenbacks. G12H30's record well but mine are just ice pick city after 3 years. I hate em. Greenies crunch things up perfectly.

Is this built off the standard plexi filtering and output values or more along the lines of a JCM800/2204? I haven't had a chance to look closely at the schem here at work and because i am more of a layout guy and slooooowly make my way through schems because i'm schematic challenged.

Hey guys, here a few really bad pic's, I don't own a great camera so its the best I can do for now. I will get the strat clips up though, this amp has very good strat tones which isn't easy with a lot of amps I've used. The power supply and filters are Train Wreck Express clones. all voltages on the B+ rail are the same. I loved the TW but it was just to loud to use at gigs.the diodes I've tried were 4747,4743 but the ones I like the best are 4148's, but thats just me. I know true JOSE's used zeners and you can certainly make this amp a ture jose if you like. just move ch-2 master to before the tone stack, add a .22uf cap & 10K resistor in series to the input lug of that master, remove the 470K voltage divider thats between the first & second gain stage off the relay and replace it with a 1meg pot for level then bypass the input to wiper with a .0047uf ceramic cap and there you have it. this circuit change to me made the amp cruchier, more modern sounding. and it will go even more modern if you change the coupling caps to .022uf, add a depth pot ( 47K resistor off pres input, series to .1uf cap to 1meg pot input with .0047uf across pot input lug & wiper lug, then off wiper to 4ohm tap on the output transformer. lots of bottom end like this ( to much for my taste but thats just me. Then a PPIMV or VVR and you've got a modern metal machine for shure, while ch-1 keeps your feet on the ground with old school plexi tone at any volume you would like it to be via ch-1 master!

thanks guys,
Dennis
