I'm pretty new to the forum and just picked up a Herbert and cab today.
I just got done playing it for a few hours and I'll I can say is HOLY SHIT

Thank you Peter for creating such an incredible amp!!!!!

Thanks to bognerluv for taking such good care of it before selling it to me.
Cool guy to deal with too.
Also, thanks to battery198 for selling and delivering the cab to Sacramento from the Bay Area.

I haven't played the vht and diezel together yet, but it's all hooked up and ready for tomorrow.
Here's a pic.

Welcome to the family, buddy!

And it won't be a surprise if your VHT starts feeling alone and forgotten... :D

Enjoy your new rig :)

Thanks everyone.
I'm sure I'll have many questions soon.

Pssshhh...not even.
VHT + Diezel is a match made in absolute tonal heaven.

My rig:

And yes, it does sound even better than you'd imagine.

Good talking to you yesterday Alex, I couldn't pass on the herbert that was local. It is in mint cond.
I'll contact you if I decide to do a trade.

Are you running both amps with a a/b/y switch?
If so, how are you running effects to the amps.

I was thinking to run my processor through the Herbert and the vht dry.

I'm using a Boss TU-2 as a splitter because it has buffered outs and doesn't affect the tone too much.
It creates a decent amount of ground-loop hum, so I've got a ground loop breaker that I made based on the EBTech Hum-X which cleans up any noise.

For rig control, I've got a Lexicon MPX-R1 which I use for MIDI control of the VH-4 and a breakout cable (1/4" stereo -> 6-pin DIN) to use its relays to control the channel on the UltraLead.

If I were to run FX, they'd be dedicated on the VH-4 because its loops are so flexible and fully MIDI-controlled.
I've actually thought about having a pair of stereo FX processors so that I can have one channel dedicated to each insert on the VH-4's channels. In your case, I'd just run an FX processor in whichever of the Herbert's loops is MIDI controlled, so it's the easiest to turn your FX on and off at will.

Great rig! Nice Jackson too! Is that a SL2H in trans black?

Yeah. I've only had it for a month or so and Love it!
I think it's a 2006.

This is a cool website.

It's not really advisable with the Herbert, as it puts out 180 watts clean, and the maximum power that a Hot Plate can handle is 185 watts.

With the master cranked and the tubes compressing, I wouldn't be surprised if a Herbert loaded with 6L6s could top 250 watts...and even more with 6550s or KT88s.

Can't say I would want to use the hotplate much with the Diezel as you want that power section to stay clean and clear anyway. Looks like you've got a nice setup going there, wish I could have stopped by this weekend but had to stay on the I80 side due to a stop that I had to make In Citrus Heights.

So sounds like you are glad you went with the Herbert over that guy's VH4?
