Hey what do you guys think of the new Gibson Les Paul Junior Special with the Open-Coil 490R and 490T humbucking pickups in the neck and bridge?

They're blowing em out for $499. For the price you can't go wrong. I'd get the P90 version though.

I already have a 1998 Gibson Les Paul Special that came with the factory P-100's, had the bridge replaced with a Dimarzio P90 super distortion, but thinking of maybe getting a new set of Gibson P90's for it leaving setup where it is at 1/2 step below E tuning and getting some beefier strings on it like the .011-.049's or .010-.052's and getting one of the new Gibson Les Paul Junior Special's with the humbuckers thats on blowout price and have it setup with .010-.060's tuned to drop B for my modern metal band

Nope! I agree, P-90's in LP Jr's...

"If" they made, (Which a Gibson rep told me they were going to at the last NAMM show, but I've YET to see) a Double cut, single P-90 "Special"? I'd snag one in a heartbeat... worn finish, whatever, just not $2700!? like the custom shop one is..

It's a $500 git... MAKE ME ONE! lol...

Lol...then by all means, have at it. Only reason I said what I did is because all my guitars are humbucker equipped. Got the P90 deal covered, then go for it. Made in the USA Gibson for the price of a used Schecter or LTD? Can't go wrong there. I think it'd kill to see it in a modern metal setting.

I went into a Guitar Center to kill time before a meeting in walking distance from GC. I played every Gibson in the store, and they all sucked ass. I really like my Les Paul, and other Gibsons that I've played that I've owned in the past, or friends have owned. It was pretty disappointing to say the least. Very dead sound materials fro the GC I played the at.

Juniors to me are one pickup , usually p90 equipped guitars to me for most part. And I wonder how many pieces of scrap wood they are using for em these days? Last I heard a minimum of 5 for the bodies and in most cases more. I understand they want to have affordable guitars on the market but when they continue to lower standards to the extreme as far as spec and materials used it hurts the brand. Ten yrs ago u could purchase an entry level Gibson and still have a one piece body and a decent gloss finish and "luxuries" like a pickgaurd or pickup surrounds. We shouldn't have to spend $5k and go custom shop historic route to get what used to be available in regular production line Gibson USA .
