Where to begin haha.... Im in love !!!!! This amp is just amazing, Ive been stuck on Channels 1 and 2 and they are just amazing.... I have been a mesa boogie Mark IV user for ever and thought it was the end all be all......until I obtained the Diezel Herbert. The thing that really makes this amp so great is it actually can be used as a three channel amp ( Clean, Rythym, and Lead) as for the Mark IV I only used the clean and lead channel. The herbert is so much more forgiving than the mesa and the eq is so much cleaner and smoother. Anyways Im preaching to quier I know. Here are some questions I have.

As far as midi controllers, I already have a GCP but its used for my live rig (Mark IV) and its going to take me a bit to get the diezel setup for my live rig (amp rack, etc.) is there a recomended cheap midi controller for the time being? Also my Herbert came loaded with made in china EL34- B and some various pre-amp tubes-- I noticed that Diezel uses the Ruby EL-34BG's but there is talk in regards to the JJ KT77's so I was wondering which power tubes to get? Thanks in advance for the help.

Oh I attached this video from our gig we did last weekend "Seek and Destroy" cover. excuse the sloppy solo "Brain fart, Sticky fingers lol" enjoy

If the tubes are ok and sound good - no reason to change them.

For the midi, I'd go either with a used Rolls pedal or get Tech21 Midi Moose. All of them run off phantom power from Herbie and are small enough to fit into a rack and still large enough for dark stages.

Nice vid btw.

Yeah man....the Herbert is Freaking Awesome!!
I really never left Channel 1 or 2 either.
For me it was all about channel 2+......wow!
Do just about anything on this amp.
Congrats!!

In Phoenix? I love my Herbert to... One of the best amps I've ever owned. If your an EL34 user, IMO the Ruby's El34 are rawnchier/hotter than the JJ KT77 but the 77's have BIG low end.. and smoother. I run 2 JJ KT77's and 4 Ruby EL34BG's I love this combo. All BG's are great too. The Ruby preamp kit Diezel suggest is the way to go.

Yep Im in Phoenix!!!! Which sockets do you put the KT77's (1&6?) and (2-4 for the BG's?) Yeah there are some tung-sols in there right now although I like the tone of Tung-sol's I get a wierd chirping sound out of them for some reason!!!!! So I will check out the Ruby's!

Yes I am very happy with 2+ aswell !!!!!!

Huge Herbert lover here too, except for the amount of compression on channel 3, which would obviously be why people generally gravitate to ch2+ so much.

Switching to all KT88's really helped to get rid of some of the compression.

Penta + Ruby KT88s gave my Herbert icepick to the ears treble. I had to swap it to EL34s to get rid of that. :(

The 77's were bigger in the low end than the 88's. No icepick treble.

Yes 77's on the outside, although I didn't hear a sonic difference from placing them in any particular socket position. I did alot of tube swaping and biasing in 1&6 though. Again the 77's offer up some BIG Bottom without getting Boomy. Still very tight for those galluping palm mutes. Also, I have to keep in mind that my Herbert is one of the first few made and Peter said it is Tighter by which it was designed, so that may have a bit of play to my ears as I made my tube choices.

I've had herb for 6 years tried 88s 77s 6l6s diff 34s. I love the grind of 34s. Playing around w 12ax7s can change ur sound.
