Bought a IIC+ combo, and shipped it to Mesa for a full servicing and the ++ mod. Also had my buddy build me a custom maple headshell, with black stain and a brushed aluminum face. Figure I’d try something different that the typical figured woods. Looks better in person. LOVE this amp. It’s definitely worthy of it’s praise.

Is there anything fundamentally different about the circuitry of the combos vs the head versions of that amp?

Some think the long heads sound better than the short head/combo size chassis...others think the originals with the RP11 board sound better than the upgraded 2C with the RP10. I think they all vary like any other amp of the same production year/model etc. I've owned an original with the RP11 and compared it to the upgraded SRG with the RP10...the upgrade sounded better to me.
If you ask Mike Bendinelli he'll tell you there's no way to predict which amp will sound best...they are all the same circuit but each amp will sound different because that's the nature of amplifiers.

Looks great. It's hard to see the texture on the front. I always loved the look of brushed/time saved
aluminum! Does yours look kinda like this?

I had a Mark III red stripe and a 2C+ and both amps didn’t have reverb. They sounded better that any of the other III’s or 2C+ or ++ amps I had. In fact, I liked that 2C+ without reverb more stock than when it was ++’d. I sold all of the amps off about 5 years ago.

I had this SG++ next to an HRG++ and I preferred the tone of mine. The HRG sounded amazing, and a little bigger, but I thought mine was just more pissed off and snotty. But honestly, I’d probably buy that one from him too given the chance. :D

My first C+ was a SRG 2C from a Florida GC for 750. Lol. If I'm honest, I gigged that amp back in '15 a few times before I sent it to Mike B. It was an incredible amp; with the most organic raw open growly tone I'd ever heard and that includes any of the Camerons, Wizard, SLO, and future C+/C++ I'd own. My sound guy said then and at my last gig 3 yrs ago that the 2C was the best tone he'd ever heard out of any amp I ever brought to any gig, and out of any amp he'd ever heard which includes some heavy hitters from the Sturgis campgrounds during the rally (He'd go out there every other year and make 30K running sound). When I got it back as a C+ it was killer but lost that open 'growl' that it had before.
If I found another 2C and it sounded like my old SRG I'd leave it as a C...as heretical as that sounds.

Whoa, that looks sci-fi. Love it!
Thanks, and that’s what I thought! It looks retro sci-fi, like Lost in Space or something. Cool look for a 35 year old amp that was so far ahead of it’s time!
