Hi all, first post here on RT. I'm a guitar enthusiast hack who does nothing music-related for a living, like my gain high and will always be a fan of shred, I suspect I am in good company here.

I've been digging some "budget" shred guitars lately like the Rasmus Modern series, then came across a newer Jackson Pro series that seems to have been recently announced. By chance has anyone seen them in stores yet or are they still too new? I'm liking the specs on them, specifically the alder body, maple fretboard and contoured heel (good classic shred setup), and MSRP of $1133-1333 (probably means street price around $800-$1000) doesn't sound too bad.

Put me down for a silverburst with zebra pickups  !

I've always liked the Jackson Pro Series guitars, hopefully these wil be as quality as usual.

Welcome aboard!

I could see myself with a chlorine burst/mapleFB or a transparent red rosewood FB dinky

Hey that actually looks pretty darn good!

The only thing I really dislike on them are the fb markers, I don't understand the dots being only on one side  they would look SO much better and cooler with either shark tooth inlays or regular dots in the middle IMO.

There doesn't seem to be a bad color option though I wish they had the white Dinky with maple fingerboard instead of rosewood. I'd still consider the white Dinky and the transparent black quilt top. I've never owned a neck-through before so the Soloist has me curious. Hopefully they don't have a sharp paint transition on the back of the neck like the Charvel Desolations: the necks were fine up until the 18th fret, then the paint from the body just hits your hand with a pretty big edge, blech.

Being a Fender company how soon would it be from announcement to retail availability generally?

For around a grand I'd look for used USA Jacksons. I've picked up some nice ones for around that amount that not only will hold value/appreciate they are better guitars IMHO.

This 7 is almost there. I wish it had a Fender switch placing instead of it being way out of reach. I'd axe the mini tooth fret markers in favor of none. Maybe a maple fretboard..

  on the chlorine

Speaking about holding value, a search for Ebay Jackson USA models listed at $2K+, yeesh. I know what you mean about the more expensive models being nicer instruments, I have a used USA custom shop Peavey HP Special that has really nice materials (birdseye neck and fretboard), feels solid and sounds great, when new those were easily $2K+ depending on the options.

A Jackson isn't a must, I just happened to like the specs and price on the new Pros, and getting to choose color and model... I mean chlorine green burst, it's growing on me! The trans black quilt is still looking nice, we'll see what they're like when they hit stores. Between the Soloist and Dinky there are a good amount of choices all around. I'm also considering the Rasmus M200, similar configuration and price except no maple board.

I didn't notice the Jackson forums at first, there's a thread on the new Pro series that might be worth watching re: availability, place of manufacture, etc.
