New Mesa Amp - Recto-Verb 25

It sounds better than a Mini-Rec. To me, at least.

I have a Single Rect-O-Verb 50 head from the 90s. Amazing amp. I'll check one of these out.

Wow, that's a sweet sounding amp.
I had heard samples of the mini rectifier and had thought it would be great as a combo with reverb, and here it is.
The price of the mini rec head is a bit high imo.

For me the problem is that the combo costs $1250
For close to that money you can have an express 5:50 1x12 with 50 watts of 6L6 power for $1450.
It has Mesa's graphic EQ, multi watt capability, and can use 6L6 or EL34 power tubes.
If the Recto-verb 25 1x12 cost $1000 I think then it would be a great amp for the money.

Not sure whether the 5:50 or this mini rect has more high gain.
Do you know which amp has more gain?

Express has more switches but doesn't sound as nice as the Mini Rec does IMHO. Minirectoverb seems cool, but I'd opt for a used full sized Rectoverb.

I wonder what the deal is with the Fillmore FM75 speaker they used for it? I know that Fillmore is Boogies house speaker brand, but I wonder why they went with it instead of the standard V30 and how they differ from each other?

I do too and it sound amazing. I hope the reverb on the 25w will be better.

Its also interesting that they are offering a rackmount version of it. Plus the head shell is quite different from the other lunchbox heads they are offering. I wonder if its safe to assume that we'll see the same changes come over to the mini recto as well.

I'm definitely going the combo route. Selling my DC-5; it's too damn heavy for what I want, which is a grab and go amp. I also really don't need 50 watts. 25 watt tube amps are plenty loud.

I wouldn't assume that. Why would they make the Mini Rec almost identical to the new Rectoverb 25? They're already basically the same amp anyways. If you make the cosmetics the same as well, there would be no reason to continue building the Mini Rec.

I think they will leave the differences in place which will allow them to offer the same basic amp at slightly different price points.

My concern with this amp is the transformers - they look like toys! This thing can't move much air at all......

However, as evidenced on the Mesa website, under a mic it seems to have a balanced tonality and decent low end response. Interesting.......

If it is like the mini rec you would be surprised how much low end it will push. Not as much as a 100 watt on bold and SS rectifiers but not all that far off.

I had the Mini Rec next to a Triple Rec, through the same cabs. The Mini Rec honestly sounded pretty nice. Better than I was expecting. Triple Rec blew it out of the room, but obviously different target markets.

I think this will replace the mini rec. They are having a lot of problems with volume oscillation in the 10 watt mode and were either going to have to release a "B" version with the fix or replace it with this model under the radar to avoid bad press.

The move to a regular headshell opens up the ability to up-charge for custom finish options.

The transformers in the Caliber .50 aren't that big either, but it's still more than loud enough to gig with.

(Off topic: this thread kinda reminds me of when Doug tried to get the Jet City version of the mini recto into production.)

The concern isn't with volume. Every Mesa I've played can be deafening. But little tubes and little transformers don't imply a lot of low end response. EL84's tend to be raspy and lean sounding IME. Some .50 calibers had 6L6 tubes, too.

I had hoped they'd eventually move the Mini Rec to 6L6 tubes, but this implies they have no intension to do that. Bummer. But used Single Rectos are plentiful and are basically the same, just larger and cheaper.
