FUCKing A - Killer tones, and great writing by Mick and Nikki.
"Face Down in the Dirt", "Down at the Whiskey", "Chicks = Trouble", and "Saints" full-on ROCK.

Saw Mick on Larry King on Sunday, there's a Marshall and an SLO on this tour.

I posted a link to "Saints of Los Angeles" here when it was first released and no one liked it but me. Personally, I think that song rocks and is as good as anything in their catalog... Looking forward to hearing the rest of it...

Steve, that's too bad. Folks are missin' out on some KILLA riffs. Total ballz and chunk courtesy of an SLO (with what looked like a depth knob mod) and Marshall SL. I read somewhere that Mick's blending the two amps ala Chris Impelliteri.

Did they have to wheel him in on a stretcher?

Those bones are freezing up on him.

(I just finished The Dirt. Good read.)

Yeah... except the guy who produced the album says that no real amps were used to record it. He says it is all Eleven, the new amp modeling plugin from Digidesign for ProTools:

"Both projects were recorded and produced with his ICON-controlled Pro Tools|HD® system, and all the guitar tracks for the Motley Crue album were created using Digidesign’s newly-released Eleven™ guitar amp emulation plug-in."

Check it out:

I don't care how good that plug sounds........that is just F-in wrong. It's not about whether the modeler really sounds like a real amp or not - it's about having real shit in the studio dammit!!!

I wish you hadn't posted that ;)

whatever. Sounded phenomenal modeling or not.

oh well, looks like in the future we may be saving a ton on power tubes

from a great recording forum I watch:

"Hi guys,

I'm the lead developer for Eleven, and I wrote all of the amp models. I've been lurking for a while, but I figured I might as well join in the discussion. It's great to hear so much positive feedback about Eleven, and as for the negative feedback, well that's fine too. Personally I like the guitar tone on gm5k's clips, at least if you're going for that style of music. Regarding the Eleven demos on the Digi website, overall I'm not totally crazy about them, even the newer ones, but it depends somewhat on the particular clip. I'm sure at some point we'll get more/better demos.

By the way, it turns out Motley Crue used Eleven to record ALL of the guitar tracks on their latest album. The complete story is available here:

http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?nav ... emid=32358

While I'd say Motley Crue is clearly past their prime, it's still kind of cool to see them using Eleven. As a teenager I owned their first 4 or 5 albums. When I heard about this story, I gave the single Saints of Los Angeles a listen, and while I wouldn't say it's the utmost epitome of good tone, it definitely sounds like real amps to me and sounds about like your typical rock record these days. Of course, opinions will vary about their guitar tone, but seriously if you didn't know that it was an amp sim, would you have guessed? "

I've never owned a MC record, but I just listened to Saints and kinda dig it. Sounds as good to me as anything else of theirs I've ever heard...

Oh I love this quote..........“Eleven is the first plug-in that
can honestly replace the guitar
amp.” — James Michael

Ha, ha...apparently he's never tried and AxeFx. Man, you tube amp guys must me trippin how this album was done with a plugin. Any traditional tube heads out there that feel that Mick has let ya down by using emulation instead of amps? I'm sure he'll make it up to ya on tour though. I saw the Crue on Larry King the other night and saw some Soldanos in the rehearsal room.

Wow I am so tripping and so letdown.

If these plugins are so good, why aren't they being marketed as standalone practice amps and such - ala Line 6?

Not sure about Eleven but a lot of pro tools plugins only run on their hardware cards.

Yup - Eleven only runs on their proprietary TDM hardware... lotsa plugins I'd like (like the Eventide H3000) are only available on their damn hardware...

they make eleven LE for the native protools systems...

Revalver sounds way better for the hard stuff to my ears though
