Took advantage of MF's current 4th of July promo to get a pair of Alto 800 watt class D powered 1X12 cabs. From what I'm reading, guys are comparing them somewhat to the QSC K12s (my dream cabs), but for 1/3 the cost. I will just be using them for my solo acoustic gigs though. If I was going to try to use them for a band situation, I'd definitely look at the 1X15s and subs. I'm fairly impressed with what I'm seeing on their web site.

Anyways... here's a link to the ones at MF that I ordered today. I made two separate orders and got almost $100 off that way.

The Alto's are a great speaker. I have the powered 15". Gigged last weekend with it. Practice tonight with only 1 and it keeps up with a very hard hitting drummer.

Great buy for the money.

I've had my eye on these for a few weeks now. Looking forward to see how they sound for you.

I've heard they aren't great with modelers and metal music, but for your purposes seems like a great solution.

Cabs came today. NICE!

Well designed and built. Fairly light. Several handles. Seem to be very stury and able to take the abuse that playing live will generate.

And the sound... so far I'm VERY impressed! PLENTY of headroom and volume. Also, PLENTY of thumpy bass! First thing I did was plug in cell phone in via the headphone jack (1/8" stereo to 1/4" stereo cable). The sound was a bit funky, but I was just playing some MP3s to make sure the cabs worked before I had to go back to work (was on my lunch hour). So this evening I plugged my small mixing board into them and plugged my netbook into that and played a bunch of MP3s. Definitely prefers a preamp of some sort (like the mixer). Generates much more headroom/volume/and crisp tone. After playing along with a bunch of MP3s (using my Marshall DSL half stack for guitar), I then plugged my netbook into my Fishman Loudbox Mini and ran out of that via XLR to the first Alto cab, and out of that via XLR to the input of the 2nd Alto cab. This is the setup that I'll be using most of the time live for my acoustic gig. Sounded awesome.

These cabs have so much bass that I can't imagine needing subs unless I was playing with a loud rock band and had kick drum and bass guitar through them. I can't imagine finding a better powered PA cab for $250 (what I paid for each after the MF discount running at the time of order). Even at their normal $300 they're a STEAL!
