New Preamp Day: Rocktron Piranha

I just picked this up yesterday at a pawn shop for a pretty good price. My first impressions are it sounds really good (especially for the price I paid). There seems to be a lot of tones in this with the parametric mid control, so we'll see what other tones I can coax out of it. Reviews online seem extremely mixed, but so far I'm siding with the group that thinks it's a cool preamp. Any of you guys have one of these? So far it's fun to mess around with.

I loved one but sold it foolishly and haven't gotten another. Swap out the preamp tubes until you find something you like. They can sound very cool with a minor amount of tweaking.

I think Megadeth did for a little while, and I've also heard of Priest using them.

I used one for a long time. Loved it. Better than the Tiaxis I had even.

Great preamp!

Just a word to the wise though about the mixed reviews. I find that whenever a preamp has a lot of flexability/versatility with the controls, you will always get mixed reviews because not everyone can dial in a sound. That's why I'm a firm believer in try before you buy. Congrats

Very true. I'm just left scratching my head though because I think it sounds pretty awesome
