So what do we think of this Dead spec Strat?

As much as I can love Jerry’s playing, was never really a fan of his tone all the time. IMO, some Jerry eras are better than others. Honestly, I’m a fan of the years 1987-1990.

Also, I can’t say I’m very experienced with PRS guitars. I did own a SE custom 24, heavy as all hell and didn’t sound all that great.

I don’t own tan pants either…

I think SE's get a lot of hype from YouTube reviewers. Same as the new Epiphones. I find them to be more or less along the lines in inconsistence in quality. Some are good. Some are not. But the whole statement that they "ooze PRS quality and DNA" I don't agree with. They cut every corner they can to get them at a price point.

I've had a core Silver Sky and currently own an SE. Maybe I got lucky but mine is flawless and plays and sounds every bit as good as the Core I had. I also somewhat prefer the SE due to the fretboard radius being 8.5 over the 7.25 of the Core. Pickups sound fantastic as well.

Who cares.. oh, maybe TGP?
I apologize if this topic is too “TGP” for you. :lame:

I think there are plenty of players who chase Garcia’s tone. I could be wrong though?

I inquire because I’m an old dead head and PRS is very popular guitar company. I’m not much of a Mayer fan either.

I’m not quite into Jerry’s guitar tone as much as I like his vocals. Thinking about it, personally Mayer’s tone to me is miles above Jerry’s even though it’s supposed to be similar…

There is quite a lot of “influencer” hype for cheap guitars.
Even though the cheap guitars price wise don’t seem so cheap anymore…

I don't doubt there are some good ones around. I have not had a Silver Sky in particular. Not really into the round fretboard, odd headstock shape, or all single coils. I'm just speaking my general experience PRS SE.

Just speaking from my personal experience with PRS SE. I'm sure you can find the right one if you look hard enough. But I wouldn't take a blind gamble on them, personally.

I've had the opposite experience. SE's and LTD 1000 are clearly better on average than any alternative in that price range, along with probably Schecter. I don't have as much experience with them though.

I agree about about LTD. I've had like 8 or 9. All of them have been good and a couple brilliant. I actually always liked the 400 series better granted you can upgrade the bridge, personally. But the 1000's are more decked out for sure.

That seems like a cool guitar.
