So about a month or so ago I was gassing for something.. what? Who knows but I came across what I had been searching for… a damn Caswell with Soldano power amplifier in an auction in BC Canada. Oddly or not oddly, I won the auction. Fortunately a buddy I know lives up there and picked it up for me and packed it well and sent to me. It arrived about 2 weeks ago and I opened it up and made sure it turned on but did not get a chance to fiddle with it as we had a show that weekend and I didn’t want to get sidetracked so I put it out if mind. Sadly my buddy died at the show last weekend so I didn’t feel like doing anything but this week I connected everything up as I have to press on. First the Caswell through the Soldano power amp. Then the Caswell through the Fryette PS100. I actually like the Fryette better. Maybe I need to give the slo power amp a bit more time idk. But the sound is incredible. So vs my SLO100 the Caswell allows multiple settings for tone which is nice. It’s midi programmable as well so I use my voodoo channel switcher to control the Caswell. I also have the Mesa 50:50 with the axe/fx II for a wet dry setup. Very very cool. I am tempted to try the Soldano power amplifier with the axe fx…. Just to see. Thing looks so cool. Sounds fucking awesome.
Serials give some idea to dating the units. I didn’t find them listed to anyone special. Would have been cool.

Wow! those things are rare as hen's teeth!
That was that huge auction where all that amazing gear was, correct?
I believe it was some doctor that owned all that gear. What a collection it was!

Congrats! That is a neat setup!

That is what I heard but there were a lot of rumors around it. Idk. Seems like a lot of shit for a doctor to own especially in Canada. Even here that’s a lot of shit. I wanted the Caswell. The power amp came home as a tag along. It will be nice to just haul a rack case vs a bunch of heads. I need a custom built rack gear carry case. You know, as much as I don’t need anything I still look…. I don’t get it, until I do. I wish I could capture the sound as it kicks ass. The Slo tone is very apparent here.

That’s way cool! Curious did you get hit with any customs fees? Been eying some amps from Japan and Europe but the fees are a turn off.

No fees. In fact, my buddy was 100% legit on going through the border. He declared it; They didn’t give a shit. The fees really are paid at the auction. The cost of shipping was about 450 bucks. Not bad. And we are talking Canadian dollars which is a plus

Nice one congrats - make a few clips for us tone nerds!

Wow! I’ve never heard of that rig; I knew of the X99 with the programmable presets? But I thought it looked a bit different.
Very cool! Congrats!

Daiiim you must have sold a left nut to afford that one

They’re both rare. I don’t think soldano made very many rack dedicated power amps? I thought most of his rack high wattage amps were just racked SLOs?

Not terrible considering how “wanted” the Caswell is. If was the preamp alone I might sit in a corner and suck my thumb.. both pieces and a gator case was the cost of a SLO100 with a cabinet.

Holy Mary mother of Christ!!!!!!!!!!!!! Give me, give me, I WANT, I WANT, I NEEEED!

That thing is unbelievable!! What a score!! Bet it sounds pretty ssssssssick. If you don’t mind, how much did you get this seriously bad ass score for?

Please let me know if you ever consider parting with the power amp, we can talk.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen one for sale on this forum ever. As in over 16 years I’ve been here. Super rare for sure.

That’s crazy. I know there are few (300) made. Oddly, maybe not; I typed in Caswell for sale on a Saturday morning… fumbling around waiting for wifey and there it was….. auction in Canada along with some insane equipment and shit (from a musician of some sort) that was less that two hours before hammer time! I had to move fast. Fortunately I am keen on auctions with weapons and other goofy things so I knew how to speed up my process. I bid 1 million dollars and I won. Kidding. I defined what I thought the Caswell was worth; prob -4k. Power amp-3k maybe. Shit idk. It’s worth more to me than the money so they would be hard to part with. I was playing it tonight; dammit sounded good as hell and then my colon deciding it was quitting time. ?
