Hey guys.

I visited a small music store about an hour away , and found a new Kramer Baretta reissue for sale. It was discounted to $750. The headstock caught my eye. Being an old Van Halen fan myself , I can't help thinking I need to go back and buy it. Heavy as hell. Got to be solid maple.

What do you guys think ?

It's probably one of the Music Yo era "1984" models. Killer guitars to be sure. I'm not totally up on modern Kramer prices but $750 doesn't seem terrible for that if it's new. I'd probably push for a little bit less myself, but that's just me.

Nope. It was a Gibson Kramer. I'm guessing it was a 1985 reissue.

I got a black Baretta. Great guitar. Yeah mine is a Gibson 1985 reissue that they did a few years ago.
Heavy as hell but sure has that mojo, and playing VH and '80s rock shit on it sure does take me back to a great time when guitar was king. Hell it still is for me!!!

Music Yo = Gibson from what I understand. Gibson made them, Music Yo was a site to sell them.

Oh. I was to believe the 1984 "reissue" was the music Yo = non-USA manufactured one.
The 1985 Baretta reissue is 100% USA , except for the German original Floyd Rose.

their is a sticker on those Kramers that says assembled in the USA

Either way I would not pay anywhere close to $750 for one. Do you really think that guitar has the same value as a new Charvel promod?

I think you are looking at a sub $500 guitar.

Ayrton you are so wrong. The Gibson reissue Kramers sell all the time on Ebay for between $750-$900.
The original ones go for between $1500 to over $2000
They are loved by many people for different reasons but most of all it's that iconic mid '80s Eddie vibe

Based on my experience originals sell around the $900-$1200 range, and the reissues sell in the $500-$600 range. I paid $300 for the last reissue I bought, and it took me months to sell it for $500.

Unlike most internet armchair appraisers, I actually buy and sell gear.

When i worked at Kramer in 1990 we would get cheap ass guitars in from Korea, they were basically Hondo's. We took off the Made In Korea labels and replace them with Made In USA labels. Not even sure if that's legal because all we did was set the guitars up. But, never assume something is made in the USA just because of some sticker.

Check CL and classifieds religiously.

Originals do appear. I've got a red 86, that was a Recycler mag find. Beat up, relic, scalloped board 12th fret up..... stupid price. Amazing guitar.
$750 seems steep for this style guitar. You could warmouth up your own for that price.....

I agree-wait for an original. $750 isn't an amazing deal. Nothing wrong with it but-not a deal or anything. If it plays well and you jive with it-I'd say go with it.

Update.

I went to that music store today. Saw the Baretta. Played it. Sounded great , BUT , I couldn't solo shit on it. It's got jumbo frets - I think. I normally play Gibson Les Pauls , but grew up on Van Halen.
My fingers won't reach well enough to play Van Halen riffs. crap.

What does this mean ? That you can play 24 3/4" scale lengths but not 25 1/2" ?

If you drop $750 on that git I guarantee you will be able to play Van Halen riffs on it!
:D

Seriously. Build it for that money. Or get a San Dimas fer Christ sakes.....

Yeah , looks like it. The 5 fret stretch for a bunch of VH solos is near impossible for me on this guitar. My stubs are maxed out on the Paul.
