There is a new amp that doesn't get a lot of press over here on RT that needs to be mentioned.
It's the ultra versatile and hot PWE Event Horizon 50 or 100W head.
This two channel EL34 amp is packed with features not found on other amps.
It has a "tachyon" control that sets the first gain stages gain structure and has 10 settings. Makes the clean go from ultra crystal clean to a nice crunch. Second it has the "hyperon" control that is basically a 4 way bright switch/cap...allows to make the amp very bright if wanted or darker if wanted. It also has a gain for the overall level of gain and your standard bass/mid/treble and level controls. There are NO shared controls b/w the channels so you have a lot of flexability on how to set up each channel.
More imporantly is the tone of the channels....clean can be fendery or mildly overdriven and thicker...it's cleaner than a plexi clean if you set it up that way. The gain channel is very modded Marshall with a vintage vibe, not as modern as Fortin's or some other amps we all love here on RT. It's perfect for the sounds of the 70's and 80's and has a lot of gain if desired. It's beefy and fat but still has the ability to get the top end bite of a hot rodded Marshall. It's an incredibly well made amp and packs a punch too. With the master on 2 through a 2x12...it's loud.
It has a decelerator knob on back that is a wattage reducer and brings the volume down quite a bit...not to whisper levels but still a big reduction....what's cool is it doesn't have much effect on the tone.....it's a bit thinner on the lowest settings but that's about it...still very dynamic, articulate, and no loss of highs. So it seems to be better than attenuators IMO.
Anyone looking for something with two really good channels (and a second footswitchable volume) should check it out. I'd say the demand for these amps is going to skyrocket so if you are interested you probably should get one now. www.pweamplification.com Check it out.
