There is a new amp that doesn't get a lot of press over here on RT that needs to be mentioned.
It's the ultra versatile and hot PWE Event Horizon 50 or 100W head.
This two channel EL34 amp is packed with features not found on other amps.
It has a "tachyon" control that sets the first gain stages gain structure and has 10 settings. Makes the clean go from ultra crystal clean to a nice crunch. Second it has the "hyperon" control that is basically a 4 way bright switch/cap...allows to make the amp very bright if wanted or darker if wanted. It also has a gain for the overall level of gain and your standard bass/mid/treble and level controls. There are NO shared controls b/w the channels so you have a lot of flexability on how to set up each channel.

More imporantly is the tone of the channels....clean can be fendery or mildly overdriven and thicker...it's cleaner than a plexi clean if you set it up that way. The gain channel is very modded Marshall with a vintage vibe, not as modern as Fortin's or some other amps we all love here on RT. It's perfect for the sounds of the 70's and 80's and has a lot of gain if desired. It's beefy and fat but still has the ability to get the top end bite of a hot rodded Marshall. It's an incredibly well made amp and packs a punch too. With the master on 2 through a 2x12...it's loud.

It has a decelerator knob on back that is a wattage reducer and brings the volume down quite a bit...not to whisper levels but still a big reduction....what's cool is it doesn't have much effect on the tone.....it's a bit thinner on the lowest settings but that's about it...still very dynamic, articulate, and no loss of highs. So it seems to be better than attenuators IMO.

Anyone looking for something with two really good channels (and a second footswitchable volume) should check it out. I'd say the demand for these amps is going to skyrocket so if you are interested you probably should get one now. www.pweamplification.com Check it out.

I've been wanting to check this out for quite some time now, keep hearing about these on TGP but never had the chance to hear one in person yet.

I'll have to give it a look. This is another one I've never heard of. Thanks

Not just amps either I own one of his guitars and I would say it has the organic feel of a tyler/grosh with the precision of a Anderson/Suhr. He also does a set neck or bolt on, killer guitars, very warm. His company will blow up its only a matter of time. Great guy as well and super customer service.

Yes PWE are cool. I heard a couple at Tone Merchants. I was really impressed with the cleans. His guitars are great aswell.

I heard that instead of using power tubes it opens a black hole to create a magnetic wave.

Metal.

the 100 watt event horizon is 3 grand and worth every penny. Ted is a brilliant amp designer and also has the ear to match which all great amp guys need to have. The amp is one of the most versatile high gainers out there and an amazing bang for the buck

"3 grand" is not great amp for the buck. The Peavey 5150 is great amp for the buck. 3 grand is just expensive.

I would have to agree with this, bang for the buck is the last thing I would think for a 3 grand amp, but if the tone is there, its there and is probably worth the 3grand for those who dig it :) .

People are willing to pay $3k or more for bogner, diezel, soldano, Cameron, etc

Not me, buy used. Plus, you can turn around and flip a Cameron or Soldano and get back what you paid.

 gonna have to agree here.

however my perfect amp for 3 grand would have 4 knobs and 20 kt-88s. so different strokes for different folks.

You could spend less on an amp and you can spend much more. The important thing is that you dig it. If it doesn't do it for you, even a $500 amp can be a waste of money.

PERFECT!!

I couldnt of said it better myself!

Hey guys not sure how we got so far off the topic that the PWE amp kicks some serious ass? $2700 for a handwired 2 channel state of the art amp is about the going rate if you ask me. That's what Landry, Bogner, Soldano, Fortin, Suhr/CAA, Diezel, Marsha, etc charge if not more. If you can find a used one go for it. I don't see any for sale.

At any rate the amp sounds pretty f'n good so check it out!
