These guys have definitely jumped the shark... I mean, they even mention it in one of the songs where they say they peaked on the first record. Some great songs on the 2nd and 3rd albums too but ultimately, the lyrics have gotten old and everything sounds like it doesn't flow. I think they are likely just doing it to play live shows anyway. The one redeeming factor however, is that Satchel absolutely smokes on the leads and rythms. Not sure if that is the atomic amplifire on the album but the tone is pretty rippin.

It's a one trick pony and that one trick gets old. I loved them when they first came out, went to see them a bunch of times but even live it got stale, not least because they didn't change their schtick at all - same banter, even the same riffs in the guitar solo. Seems like they just started to believe their own hype too much and decided to focus on the comedy / novelty side rather than band side. Still, they seem to be doing really well so what the fuck do I know? LOL

Yep. I started out loving them but it has gotten a bit old. Surprisingly I couldn't stand them live the only time I saw them. Too much schtick and not enough music. I think that's exactly right, they started to take themselves a little too seriously as far as being the comedy act, which seems odd. They're good musicians so I think if they toned that down and made more of a rock record with comedy thrown in they'd be better.

Agreed. Saw them once. Enjoyed it. They played my 4 fav. songs of the first album. When they played last year I said 'fuck it, I'm not going. It can only get worse, let's not tarnish a good memory'.

To me, nothing on the 2nd or 3rd album comes close to Asian Hooker or Eyes of a Panther.

Have not heard the new one yet, but I hope it's more of the same. Maybe the lone wolf here. I love them and all their songs on every cd was good. I hope they never change, it's funny as hell and by the looks of most comedians for the last 30 years, dick jokes never get old.

I mean that they do this in 2017 under the safe space generation is awesome.

I feel the same way about Metallica... and this Steel Panther record is way better.

Yep, I said that.

Here ya go bud :)

Satchel keeps getting better. And I'll take the 'comedy lyrics' over 90% of modern-rock or even 80s lyrics. The 'shtick' is why they exist at all...if they were another Edguy or Jorn or current Lynch Mob, or current Skid Row... they'd be playing to nobody.

Satchel is a bad man.

I like them, but I like that kind of humor, so I'll keep listening.

I like them but must admit this new record is their worst record by far.

Quoted For Truth. If you expect them to evolve you are missing the joke/fun/point. I love the tunes, too. There were 50 major label bands rocking this style back in the day, now there's these dudes, most of the old bands that have reunions try to modernize somehow. The lyrics are ridiculously over the top, the tunes are on point, and the lyrics give the middle finger to political correctness. What's not to love? If any forum were to "get" these guys I'd expect it to be RT.

Same. It's a pretty bland affair, no standout great tunes or really hilarious lyrics. Can't even think of a Satchel solo that stands out. My favorite song might be Now The Fun Starts, because it's pretty different to everything they've done, a moody midtempo kinda thing.

I think they've either hit the wall or are just uninspired and going through the motions now. But I'm still glad they are.

I'm probably in the rare bunch that watches their antics and interviews but doesn't listen to their music haha. Couldn't name you one song but if I had to it would probably involve willys, hookers and cocaine

That's not the point at all.. I get their shtick, I get the lyrics, they are fun. I am saying there is a HUGE difference between the quality of song writing regardless of the lyrics on this latest release. I feel albums 2 and 3 had at least 4-5 killer tracks on them. That shows effort. But for the 4th to only really have 2 good slower songs that were catchy and "maybe" poontang boomerang, shows that the song writing is in decline or they didn't put much effort in. There are still a ton of songs they could rip off and mould into new material. I guess they didn't spend much time doing that this time around.

I thought they were funny as fuck when I first heard them. See and hear em once you basically have had enough as it get sold quick for me anyway. The novelty wore off fairly quick and now is just poking fun at the 80's pre aids and sex, drugs and rock & roll.

I've seen them twice and they were actually twice as funny the second time. I may be biased because I used to catch Ralph and Russ killing the VH in LA but these guys are awesome live.

I actually got to open for Atomic Punks in San Diego when they were in the band. Holy Shit it was good.

Fair enough. That is essentially a personal take... I actually like this one better than the previous record (AYCE) at first blush. The third grew on me more after repeated listens but the initial evaluation was that it was little disappointing whereas I'm digging this one straight away.
