So my Matrix GT1000FX died recently and I had to find a new power amp, preferably 1U. Matrix is no longer apparently, and of course a such, people are asking stupid prices for used ones.

Dave Friedman had tested the Avantone CLA-100 and said it sounded great for wdw. It’s designed for studio reference monitors and is 100w per side.

I grabbed one from Zzsounds for $499. Arrived in one day and I replaced the Matrix.

The one thing you’ll have to do is get banana plug to 1/4 female adapters for the outputs. And 1/4 TS to XLR for the inputs. But that’s no big deal.

Just got done playing it and it sounds fantastic. Great option for wdw at a really good price.

The other thing is that there are no fans in this unit. So it’s dead silent unlike the Matrix.

Good to know. Im using a Marshall 100/100 Dual Monoblock at the moment but it does have a bit of noise when your not playing.
Its pure bliss other than that! W/D/W is hard to beat..
I love that pcm41!
Its been awhile since I saw one of those. The Lexicon knobs look exactly like the knobs that came on Todd Langner's products.

I was looking at the Fryette LXII but this looks pretty cool.

What? How Matrix is no more? They were like EVERYWHERE not so long ago, what happened?

Happy NPAD!

Global supply chain issue.

Matrix amps was doing great as a business but Andy cannot get the parts he needs to build his amps anymore. No parts, no amps.

Supply chain seems to be back to normal though

I use the Palmer Macht 402 as a power amp for my wet/dry/wet...
It is made for guitar with 1/4 jacks and has active bass & treble eq on each channel...

Got it used for 160€...

HH stuff can still be found; some are cheap still. The V800 is spendy but some of the smaller HH amps are 2-300 bucks.

But it's nice that a new product does a great job and doesn't break the bank.

Unfortunately, global supply chain issues are still affecting businesses everywhere even in 2023. Matrix cannot get the parts they need to make amps. Not sure whether the supply chain issues knocked Matrix's parts suppliers themselves out of business or if those parts are now prohibitively expensive or what, but that's the story.

Andy also told me he's converting Matrix into a metal anodizing company for now in order to keep solvent, and that if he's able to get parts to make more amps in the future, he will. But for now, no more Matrix amps.

What failed in your Matrix ? Not repairable ?
I was an idiot and plugged one output into the bridged jack while running stereo. Killed the R side output. If you look at the output jacks though, it’s easy to mistake them. I wish they would have made the bridged jack a different color or something. But…my fault regardless.

I figured since Matrix was closed down it can’t be repaired. But maybe someone else could repair it. Definitely worth looking into. It’s a great amp.

Cool amp. Can it be bridged?
Yes it can. 245w bridged.

Oh for sure it can be fixed unless there’s an unobtainable part inside, I have an H&H v800 that’s dead

I have always been curious about those reference monitor amps. For some reason I assumed they were weak and could not drive anything except a couple little speakers. I know-I'm special.....

Oh, I see

Who’s that ?
I have not talked with him in a few yrs but he use to run a repair place called Valley Sound in LA. He was the H&H Guru that fixed mine and said he worked on EVH's H&H's among other celebrity guitarist. This was his old phone# 818 755-2801 if you want to talk to him. Dave Friedman now has the one I use to own. I saw it in the Friedman Factory tour video last wk.
