Finally, after 8 long weeks of waiting, my black korina soloist body has arrived. I've attached pictures of the body, and of the photoshopped concept picture that I made before I ordered it. The funny thing is, the actual grain in the body I got almost matches my photoshop rendering exactly!

I honestly couldn't be more pleased with how amazing the piece of wood looks, and the finish. Brown to clear burst. Stunning. I can't stop looking at it. I've attached a photoshop drawing of what the final product will look like. It's totally inspired by the washburn Nuno model.

Looks killer...but where are the holes for the electronics?

I told them to leave it blank, so I can drill them myself... probably gonna do small holed, and SLOWLY carefully widen them with a file.

I prefer masking tape, a small pilot hole, and a unibit after that.

Those unibits looks perfect for what I need to do. I forgot that I also have a reamer bit, for doing the endpins on an acoustic. perhaps that might work too.

Where can you get a unibit? Lowes or Home Depot?

Yup, as well as a local hardware store, and Harbor Freight if you want them heavily discounted. The Harbor Freight ones aren't too bad, actually.

Big +1 on the masking tape and pilot hole first, I have a dewalt with a level on it as well to ensure straight holes since I do not own a press.

I would use a forester bit and NOT a unibit, the forester bit is designed for wood and will not splinter the wood. I have used it to drill holes recently on a hardwood headshell and it worked great. Got the idea from Neal Moser as that is what he uses to drill the holes in his custom shop guitars.

Awesome! I think the real thing looks much better than your photoshop!

Looks great!!!

Since it's a bolt on neck instead of neck through, wouldn't it be a dinky instead of a soloist?

Well, considering I'm slapping a reverse Washburn headstock neck on it, it's gonna be a freakin' bastard-child-mutt of a guitar!

It's definitely going to have a bit of an identity crisis, but it will rock none the less.

I love the look of Black Korina. If/when I do another part-y, that is what the body wood will be.

Looks terrific!
Just a hint for you. When you go to drill the holes for the electronics, drill them all with the drill set to reverse.

Looks sweet. You should post pictures of the work you do and updates. Kind of a work in progress thread. I've always been curious what goes into building something like this from the stage you are at.

Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
