I’m pretty stoked about this one, and a big thanks to @LPMojoGL for being my on-call international guitar phone a friend guitar advisor .
Been jonesing for another reissue. It’s been 15 years since owning a real reissue. Was looking online thinking I may have to take a trip to Tokyo, but as I was visiting my favorite local Japanese house of ill repu…. I mean guitar store, I saw they had a few reissues. I was immediate draw to one in particular, but they were all in locked glass cases and I had to come back when I had more time. They had this one and another 2013 R8.
Went back to play them today, it was night and day difference between this one and the 2012. Called Bobby to explain my thoughts and what I was observing and he was explaining to me the differences in specs and fueling me information real time. Doing web searches in Japan yield much different results than stateside, so I was able to make an informed decision.
It seems as a whole, 2017 seems like a well regarded year for reissues being a transitional year getting some of the best combinations of specs. Now add that this was a limited Japan only run of hand-selected hard rock maple top and 1959 Carmelita neck carve True historic spec and plastics, etc. It probably as close as you’ll get to an R9 but is an R8 and cost me R8 money.
I may be wrong as 2017 was a wonky and not well documented year, but I think it’s called
dirty lemon. It weighs in at 8.48 lbs and also appears to have a quarter sawn mahogany neck.
First time trying the custombuckers and so far I like them. I was worried about microphonics but they hold up well under gain and sound great clean.
I couldn’t be happier with this top on an R8
