The band got me another guitar. Custom Shop Kamakazi.
Color says Coffee Green, but it's basically a black stain with aged poly.
It's a touch heavier than I like, but it's not insane. My Candy Tangerine Charvel is about the same weight, so i'm used to it. The neck is a very Fendery C shape, but with a flatter radius. It has a few nicks in the body as advertised. I'm not a fan of weird headstocks, but i never thought of the reverse Banana as weird since i always loved Lynch's Kamikazi's.
The neck is quartersawn and was dead straight and in tune when it arrived. Some minor fret wear. The action was a bit high. I did my usual and lowered it to an obscene level just to see what I was working with (and to get a better grip of any high frets, etc). It didn't buzz or choke out at obscenely low levels, so I raised it up to a comfortable level and plugged it in.
I have no idea what pickups are in it, but the bridge does not sound like a JB. I'm assuming it's a Distortion, but will find out when my Hellabucker comes in. The neck pickup is not too bright and works well with the bridge pickup.
Now, i love my Charvel's and my black USA San Dimas will always be my #1 for most things, but this thing plays like butter. It feels like a guitar that was made in a custom shop and it sounds great. It will be my #1 for when Contrarian goes on tour for sure.
