So a few weeks ago my wife's uncle past away. She is really close with his daughter (15 y/o). I flew out with my wife, grandmother in law and Aunt..in law to where they live in Colorado. We spent about a week with the remaining family (Wife/Daughter). Went to his memorial. He was a musician and a newspaper writer in the entertainment section. They held it at the local theater hall, it was amazing, every single seat was filled (500 people), and they had to refuse people because they were at max capacity. He reached out and touched so many people.

Anyway, longstory short.. We're cleaning out his apartment with his Sister/My Aunt-in-Law, she takes about 100+ of his Grateful Dead t-shirts and we stumble across his guitars. I sat aside and just played them for a bit. His sister comes up "I didn't know you played guitar", "Yeah, I love to, I used to a lot but lost touch with it".. "Why don't you keep it?".. "I don't know, I thought someone wanted it, I don't want to be greedy" She then says to me.. "That was the acoustic, you take the electric, it's better to keep it in the family than some stranger having it.".. So I immediately looked it up, packed it up and shipped it on home. I got it just a couple days ago.

I think I'm going to really get back into playing guitar, I lost touch for a while. I need a little help Identifying it. Serial number is 3 16xxx, it's set neck. So I think it's a 1993 PRS CU24? I'm not keen on the higher end PRS models.

Looks like a '93 Custom 24 quilt top. May or may not be a "10" top - it'll say "10" on the back of the headstock if it is.

Those are nice axes. It should have a brazilian rosewood fretboard and a milcom trem among other cool oldschool features.

BTW, the tuners are sort of strung wrong. It'll stay in tune better if you crimp and clip the strings so it comes out looking like this:

Beautiful!!! Sorry about the loss but awesome someone will get to keep that piece in the family

There may be a sticker in one of the pickup cavities or writing on it with info about the options. You probably could contact PRS with the SN and get more info. Very nice guitar, and glad it's staying in the family.

Sorry about the loss.

Call PRS they will tell you.

Sorry for the loss man, sounds like he was a class guy.

Yup, looks like a 1993 CU24. It'll probably be an Indian rosewood board though, they started the phase out of Brazzy in 91 if memory serves.

Please say you're not even considering the prospect of selling it.

that thing is beautiful...sorry for the loss but great its going to you and youll appreciate it...

That's awesome that they chose to keep it in the family and let you have it, and what a better way to pay tribute to him by you using his guitar to start playing again.

Very sorry for your loss. However, a great keepsake to remember him by.

Beautiful guitar! Congrats!

I don't plan on selling it or parting with it ever, just meant that I don't know anything about PRS' high end stuff.

Thanks for the help guys, I think I'll call PRS tomorrow and poke their brains :)

Sorry for your families loss. :aww:
Yeah keep the music alive and play that beauty of an axe.

I have a 93 custom 22 and that is indeed a custom 24. Usually under the neck pickup it will tell you all the info. Mine has dragon 1s in it but I think the 24's came with hfs/vintage bass. I am sorry for your loss. Shane
