I'm really psych'd about this one. It is usually very hard to find well documented Pre-Pro Charvels. Most of them are parts guitars (and not even real Charvel parts many times) but this one I just got is about as well documented and 100% original as you can find out there. In fact, except for the wear and tear, it appears to be pretty much as delivered back in 1981.

This guitar was part of a four guitar order for some guitarist named Andy Fach, of a German hard rock band called Viva. This guitar was ordered January 1981 as you can see from the original work order. Note on the actual sales invoice each guitar averaged ABOUT $450 back then (although I assure you, I paid MUCH more than that!  ). This guitar was ordered through Music Center in Hamburg Germany, and it was owned by a Swiss collector until it went to the guy who just sold it to me. You can see it has the smaller Charvel logo without the "Made in USA" that is on the larger serialized logo, a brass vintage tremolo, one Duncan humbucker in the bridge, 21 fret maple neck, and crown head tuners. The paint on this one is a primitive ‘paint and peel’ graphic with red/pink accent within the flames. The graphic also has the blue pin-striping over black base, with wrap-around graphics, and the body has traditional Charvel cavity routes.

You can see that this one has really been played over the years. The clear is lifting off the body in many place and it is dinged up, but the neck (while well worn in) plays great and is in really good shape. Not sure what the pickup is, but it is definitely not a JB - definitely lower output, but it sounds really nice. Guitar is surprisingly light for an Explorer body!

Anyway, with this one, I've completed my vintage Charvel collecting. I have everything I wanted now with the other parts guitars I put together at the start of this spree...

Very cool! Nice find! what's the nut width on that? I know some early Charvels were the 1 3/4 and some the 1 and 11/16

So badass ! Great score Steve ! How do you find this stuff ??? lol

Man, Steve... that's killer. Congrats! I'd love to try that neck, it appears as though it would feel like absolute perfection.

Holy crap Steve!~ Awesome. And Al.... some early Charvel's had 1-5/8" nut widths, my personal favorite.

Wow! Nice addition to the collection.

There are some YouTube vids of a Viva live show from '83 but this guitar does not make an appearance. There is a black and yellow striped Charvel in it possibly the one from the same sales order.

How wierd is it that Michael Schenker's sister was the in that band?

What a score! God, I love guitars like that. So jealous.

A well documented pre-pro with a cool history, what a score. Congratz!

Thats amazing dude. congrats

I wonder what happened to the rest of the guitars on that order sheet. You should try and track those down too. That would be so sweet to have the full collection haha
