Been looking for a beater guitar so I don't have to take my good ones out (less worrying equals more time having fun). I played an RG3EX1 the other day and was pretty impressed with the neck, for such a cheap guitar. Well, after doing some prodding, I found one of these for $130 on the GC used site and couldn't resist.

I don't know what anyone else's experience has been, but I'm pretty blown away that Ibanez can make such a cheap guitar with such a good neck! Sure, the guitar may not have the character or mojo of a Gibson - certainly not the tone - but I've played more Custom Shop Les Pauls than I care to admit with necks that can't touch this Ibanez! Don't get me wrong; I'd take a good Les Paul any day over this thing. But for what it is - a used $130 beater guitar - the quality to price ratio is pretty damn high!

Anyone else have a similar experience?

It's hard to beat Ibanez when it comes to quality vs. price-point. PRS SE's are close, but you can get a damn nice starter/beater Ibanez for nuthin'.

I'm using a beater Ibanez for my primary guitar at the moment. Sold most of the others for some gear deposits that should pay off this summer.

I have to admit, I am an Ibanez guy. I love my '87 Radius so much that I just finally found another one just like it so now I have 2 of them  . I also have a Les Paul and a very nice G&L Legacy but it's the Ibanez that I play 90% of the time. That neck is just perfect for me and I haven't found anything I like better.

My first bass was an Ibanez. It played great, for $100. My first fretless was an Ibanez too. They are great, for the money.

I feel the same way about the ESP LTD guitars. Great playing cheap guitars.

I always wanted to love Ibby's, but just could never get it going on... Neck bolt design perhaps. But ya, MIJ or MIK guitars can seriously rip. I'm perpetually blown away by the quality feel and finish of my ESPs. So it goes.

funny to see this thread. I recently picked up a new RG321MHE for my son out of the blem section on ZZsounds. For $175 shipped, I wasn't expecting much, but wow, what a great playing and sounding guitar! Everyone bags on the passive EMG HZ, but these H4's sound great thru my rig! It helps that I have some nice amps, lol, but still. It plays like a much more expensive guitar, and it's made of decent wood to top it off. I'm shocked at what a great guitar this is for the price!

Absolutely. I was dead set against Jap guitars for a long time. Bought a RG5SP at GC one day for cheap. Now I look for cheap Ibby's everywhere. I love the wizard II neck. Best deals out there.

I also think IBZ has great quality for the $. With the exception of a few customs I've had since the 80s I only play Ibanez. I recently put together an RG7620 out of 3 different guitars and it's the best playing guitar I've ever touched. It probably cost me $300.

I currently have a white RG2EX2 that I bought for 250 bucks new at GC years ago. Swapped out the pickups for dimarzios and it's still my one and only. It plays great I have no desire to buy another at the moment. All my friends who play it all say it's one of the best ibby's they played.

I've used Ibbys since I've started playing. I made the huge mistake a few years back of buying my first J Custom. If you think the lower end stuff rocks......well...... ;)

i have a few too....and they run the price range for 2k down to 200.

i think it's even easier to love a great playing, great sounding 200$ guitar than it is the 2k guitars.

i snagged an rg550 off ebay for 200$ back in 2003, put some decent pickups in it, and it's absolutely killer.

Absolutely! My next step is to throw in some spare WCRs I have. It'll be pretty hard to tell it apart from top of the line then, I think!

+1

I paid $450 on an RGA121 off of ebay a few months ago. Probably one of my top playing guitars. My thing is the Wizard Prestige necks, love 'em.

I've never owned an Ibanez, don't know why-I've always dug them. Either way, very cool, HNGD!
