Story time.

I've played a lot of PRS' in my time. Which is a relatively short time compared to most here. I've always liked them, but never really thought enough to put down the cash for them. Usually when I'm in a guitar store, whether it be some of the nicer ones in my town, or a guitar center, and I get the chance to sit down with a priss, I would plug into what I knew he tone of like the back of my hand, a Fender Twin. When I was in college I played mostly jazz for 4 years, and 6 days a week I'd plug into my schools old twin, set the knobs where I knew sounded good, game over. Thusly, I've played hundreds of guitars through a twin, and it's kind of become my benchmark for if a guitar sounds good on its own or not. Also, I hadnt played a PRS through any amp that I actually owned.

Recently, I was looking for a guitar that was cheap and I could use to swap pickups in and out of to try some of the new stuff that came to market. I was looking forward to trying out some nailbombs, maybe the Black Hawks, maybe the new SD stuff. I came across a Singlecut SE for under 300 bones and figured, why not?

Simply put, when the guitar came in, I plugged it into my rig and it blew me away. In no way did I think that this guitar was going to sound as good as it did, and also feel really good to play. Not great, but better than any other guitar I've ever spent that amount of money on. This story isn't about that guitar though, so........

This led me to wonder, "If this import student model is this nice, how nice could the Stevensville ones be." I started hunting. (sans doe urine, that's cheating)

I spent a few weeks perusing ebay and TGP, mostly TGP, for my first victim. I had a general idea of what I wanted, but was pretty open to whatever PRS caught my eye and wasn't exorbitantly expensive. I came across a 2000 Custom 22 that had been completely raped. New pickups, complete refin(with serial number intact though), a piezo in it that is somehow jerryrigged, its been routed for a singlecoil in between the two pickups, but there isn't a singlecoil there, nor any discernible way to actually mount a pickup there. It was kind of like the 15 year old pit bull with mange and dogfighting scars, 1 hour away from being put down, and I decided to take him home. I love him and hes been nothing but sunshine since he came though my door. But, despite our flourishing friendship, I'm a greedy bastard, and still had my sights set on another. This time I knew exactly what I wanted.

It's an '01 Singlecut. I had been looking for a few months for one exactly like this. A pretty standard set of specs: Green flame, Birds, wrap around bridge. So many times I found something so close, but just one little thing was off, and I had to bite my tongue and leave it be, cause I knew as soon as I bought something that wasn't exactly what I wanted, what I wanted would pop up and I'd be dead in the water. When I found this one, I knew she was the one. There a few nicks here and there, but for a 13 year old guitar it's in fantastic condition. I've only had a few hours with it so far, but it plays and sounds amazing. The Wide fat might take a little time to get used to, but I'm all over the place with necks as far as my other guitars and I know after putting in 30 hours with her I'll be right at home.

Also a quick clip I did, which has cleans, low gain lead tone, and heavy rhythm. Simple. Clip is Guitar->Dual Rec-> Two Notes.

Sounds beefy as hell, man. I loved the clip. HNGD!

Congrats man! LOVE my SC245. Hands down one of the finest guitar I have ever owned and will definitely be adding another to the stable.

That's a great looking singlecut - congrats!! I really want to find a nice one with a wide thin neck. I found one once, had a deal worked out but then it fell apart because of shipping issues...

Nice guitar... I also like the wide/fat on my custom 22
