This arrived yesterday. 2021 model - Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas Style 1 HSS HT E Sassafras
Wow, this thing is absolutely killer. I think I got lucky on the import shuffle because the neck is perfect, finish looks amazing, plays like butter and sounds amazing.

Came with a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge. It was good, a rockin pickup. But I swapped it out with a Tom Anderson HF3 in the bridge. Matches perfectly.
Swapped out the plastic nut with a TUSQ XL nut, easy peasy.

Also, I bought this wood pick guard last year, made of maple. Natural, no stain or anything. I bought a set of Tom Anderson single coils and loaded up the pick guard and installed it on my Fender Strat today. I added some oil, but no stain or anything, just oil. I think it came out pretty cool, really happy with it. The Tom Anderson pickups sound great too, didn't care for the pickups that came with it. I purposely did not use the hole for the volume knob, I hate the knob so close to the pickups, gets in my way. Camera doesn't do it justice, it looks better in person, but oh well...

Reminds me of mahogany or like the okoume bodies but almost has the looks of a killer/sandblasted ash. When you run your hand across it, it has texture, not smooth. Even with the JB (which I’ve always thought was too brittle and trebly sounding) it sounded smooth and full. Man I really like it

I read a bunch that these import Charvels are a crap shoot on quality, but this one feels like it should cost more. It really does. Neck is smooth and straight, I was able to get the action really low. No fret sprout. It listed for $999, I offered $900 and they accepted, free shipping. It feels and sounds like it should cost about $1800. I think I got lucky on this one.
