After wanting a Carvin for a while, I was finally going to order a custom guitar, when I saw this used model in the classifieds, with almost all of my options!! It's an 09, in like-new condition, with jumbo SS frets, 14" neck radius, and a killer honeyburst finish! I just got it over the weekend, but the tone falls somewhere between a PRS McCarty, and a Les Paul. Rich, with great harmonics and low end. So far, Carvin has not disappointed!!

Happy NGD! I have been looking alot at Carvin lately, and want that same guitar in the triple stain purple, or whatever it is. In fact, it will probably be my next purchase.

What is the finish on the back of the neck? I am thinking I would like the tung oil, but am worried about how it works on the mahogany. Also, how is the action?

Enjoy the new guitar.

Thanks.

The back of the neck has the satin finish, which I read is 90% of the tung oil feel, minus the maintenance of tung oil. The action is pretty low, but I have the jumbo SS frets, so it seems higher due to the fret height, if that makes sense? Top notch build quality, including fret finish!

Carvin makes a great guitar. I got my first Carvin last month. I have a Japanese Ibanez from 89' recently refretted, a mexi-strat, a Gibson Explorer, and a Suhr Classic T and I'd put the Carvin above everything except the Suhr and it's on par with the Suhr in terms of quality and craftsmanship, at about half the price. The pickups are the only thing that I'm not in love with and thats an easy fix. It took me a little bit to get used to the neck and what I found was I was fretting to hard. The carvin plays so smooth that I find myself digging in too hard thinking I need to fret harder because it's so effortless. Congrats on the NGD. My next custom build will likely be a carvin.
