A few months back I bought a parted out 84 Charvel neck/body, with the hopes of turning it into a Floyded restoration…well partial since I’m not gonna be spending stupid money on og hardware for it…

Sent it out to Pat Wilkins in LA and he filled it the Kahler route, and Re routed it for a Floyd…

Thanks! It’ll never be a truly ‘collectible’ vintage Charvel but it’s legit; WO number and date in the neck pocket, solid 1 pc Maple body and full 1/4 inch thick rosewood board. A previous owner shaved the neck heel, probably to try the neck on a different guitar (dumbass) but after shimming it’s perfect. Plays fast like my others

Looks great, hows it sound?
Killer. I’ve had 3 other vintage 83-85 USAs and they all had great tone..thick almost like an LP and sweet/complex sounding; unlike some guitars that are resonant but the tone is kinda flat. By comparison my 2 others from 08/09 sound good but don’t have that ‘extra’ the vintage one does. Hard to describe, you’d think the solid 1 pc Maple body would be too bright but it’s very even toned..maybe the rosewood helped darken it a bit.

Nice looking axe RX! What kind of pickups are in it.
Whats that red light in the lower horn…kill switch….just a reflection?

Must be a reflection….right now it’s got an RTM in bridge, Jazz in the neck but I’m gonna swap in a MCP Angel Dust tomorrow. I’ve got another Iron Man on the way too so we’ll see haha

Ah, that's OK from a "collectable" standpoint. You've got a heck of player. You basically resurected it from the dead, and that's something. Not many of those guitars around any more. I can remember when you used to be able to call Jackson with the WO# or the plate number and they would fax you a copy of the original work order with all the specs. I had one similar to yours, but when I received it.. man, was it butchered. Somebody had decided it would be a good idea to pull all the frets out from the top and it chipped the fretboard something awful. I took it a local luthier and he refretted it, and filled all the chips with rosewood dust/superglue. Looked pretty good when he got done with it. The tip of the headstock had been knocked off, and was kind of rounded and the body had been stripped. Had the original San Dimas plate on it, back when everyone was selling them for like $500-600. I could have easily parted it out, but played so good so I thought it would be a crime. I got the WO from Jackson, and turns out it was candy apple red, two hum with Floyd from the factory. Had the rosewood board, but I always kind of thought of it as a "Jack Butler" guitar. LOL

Yeah I assume the previous owner got like 1500 for the plate etc so someone could finish up their pre pro just right haha
