80s Japanese model 3A. Locking trem actually works pretty well, stays in tune like a champ. Set it up, plays as good as many of my USA Jacksons. :)

Looks like I'm not the only one going for the 80s Japanese shred axes this week :)

Nice axe!

Cool. I got the exact same guitar-colour and all. Think mine is an 88'. Saw it on the used rack, picked it up and it had a great string feel and resonance. Pretty good build quality for the money.

How do you like the neck shape?

Mike

Thanks guys. Neck profile is same as other import Charvels from the period - thicker than an Ibanez Wizard, a little slimmer IMHO than the new Charvel USA series.

It stays in tune really great, on some of these the lock on the headstock doesn't hold well. This one does.

Pete

Yes the neck profile is very thin I'd prefer a little thicker/rounder profile myself. It always freaks me out when I pick up my 54 LP RI baseball bat neck after a couple days on the Charvel 3A.

Had mine about 5 years now. Like the stock Jackson pu's (J80's?). Been thinking of pulling the pu covers off for starters then maybe even replacing the bridge with and older OFR (if I can find one in decent shape - apparently OFR is a direct drop in for this model) and repacing the neck with a maple board strathead...then again why f##k with a perfectly good guitar

Good idea?

Mike
