So I have been thinking about a guitar with the "just right" specs for a long time. Thought about building my own, but I've done that before, and by the time I was done, I'm not sure it was worth the anxiety, anger, trepidation, and so on. I also wanted to do it affordably, with as many options as I could come up with, but at the same time keeping it simple.

Here's what I came up with:

Carvin C66M
Mahogany body, maple neck
Flame all over the damn place!
AquaBurst finish
No inlays
Stainless jumbo frets

I would have taken some outdoor pics, but it's been raining, and now we're talking...snow?? The pics make it look like a matte finish, but it's shiny as hell! Here we go...

Beautiful guitar! Flawless construction! The pickups are not quite what I'm used to, but that's not a big deal. I'll give them some time. Neck RAWKS, the stainless frets are a new thing for me and I LIKE THEM! Overall a bit brighter than I'd expect from a mahogany body, but again, I think it's in part to the pickups...and lotsa maple otherwise. I'm very happy with this guitar. Everything I want in a good solid simple axe.

Sick. Fretboard looks awesome. I want a maple neck. :(

Nice. I also received a new Carvin this week. They are great guitars

I'm really impressed with the quality. I'm already planning my next one! :)

The stock pickups in the C66 I had got swapped out for Duncans.
Definite improvement but not a necessity .

I heard they will put in other(customer supplied) pickups on a custom order.

Killer looking axe.
Congrats !

Yeah, they're definitely usable. A Full Shred set would be my preference, but I don't think its a necessity. The body is mahogany, which helps to balance out the brightness of the pickups - C22B/C22J set.

I bought a C66 built to my specs once. It was a really decent guitar for what it was, slapped some DiMarzios in it and it sounded great. I eventually sold it though...always wished it had a more narrow nut width option like my other guitars. In the end, I just got tired of the transition from going back and forth. Not a big deal for some, but it is for me. Would love to own another one if they ever gave the option. Nice C66 you got there!

Nice dude! as nice as anything Ive ever seen as a NGD :)

Nice axe. I just sold my carvin. Wish I had done more research before I ordered it. I got the same wood combination, mahogony body/maple neck. Problem was, mine was a DC 125 so neck through body and the whole guitar ended sounding like maple

After some time with it, color me IMPRESSED! I'm gonna sell one of my PRS Stripped 58's to finance another Carvin. That should be telling you something.
