Hey fellas... been excited to get this gear to my place this week... just deciding on the right road case for it... I for some reason REALLY want to go with a 3 space case to make it look as small as possible, just because it makes how much it can do that much more impressive, but I'm probably going to be smart and go with the 4 space so I can put my power conditioner in there with it...

Altogether both these units weigh just under 16 lbs, and just using one side of the power amp I can completely drown out my drummer when practicing NO problem, it's kinda stupid really... considering how tiny the poweramp is....

I swear the absolute BEST tone I have ever had was my old Axe-FX Ultra with a Fryette 2/90/2 poweramp... I gave the Axe-II a shot SEVERAL times, and this isn't a knock against the unit, or anyone that uses it, but that thing is just NOT for me... there is WAY too much to tweak, and so much I just don't even comprehend...

I didn't even scratch the surface of what the Ultra could do when I owned it, I'm not a huge effect guy, and aside from my lead patches, I never use a patch that is more complicated than compressor or drive - amp - delay - reverb - and maybe some other stuff depending on the application.... so for the first time in a VERY long time I made a mature decision and realized that LESS is just absolutely more than enough for my needs...

Axe-FX Standard and Matrix GT800FX Power Amp...

It may sound like complete garbage, but I am getting utterly monstrous tones with this small rig, and it's very sobering to get every sound that I can get out of my HUGE VH-4 rig with tons of rack gear, as I can with this 16lb 3 rack space setup... when I get some time I will make some videos like I did with my VH-4, and will be A/B'ing with my buddies 6505 that I'm borrowing...

Just wanted to post some pics for now... on a side note, the Photobucket iPhone app totally kicks ass, definitely D/L it if you haven't already...

HNGD Kit.......way to be mature, brother.

I'm interested in this.......the VH4 vids were great, so I wanna see how this compares.......do a vid when ya get some time.

Enjoy!

So just to be clear: you're rig is now an Axe Standard and the Matrix? That's it? No conventional amp whatsoever? The Axe and Matrix aren't being used in a W/D/W configuration?

Absolutely clear... I rolling in with my cab and a tiny little road case that can do everything EVERY rig I've ever owned can do... and in terms of effects and off the wall stuff, can do WAY more...

I'm not in the honeymoon stage... I'm not bullshitting, and I'm most definitely not trying to start a shit-storm what-so-ever, I love tube amps just as much as the next guy, but I'd be a bold faced liar if I sat here and said when I plug into this rig I feel like I'm missing something... I have owned Fractal Products for years now, which is why I posted the non honeymoon comment... I will post some videos in the same format that I used to do my VH-4 vids... just a camera recording me jamming in the room, the sound is enormous...

My comment wasn't meant as a knock at all. I'm just a little surprised. But please; make some vids and convert me!

No brother, wasn't taken that way at all my man, I know you were on the lookout for a Matrix unit so I was trying to be detailed...

I'm not standing on a high horse pretending this setup is the be all end all.... for from it actually... i've just reached a point in my life, especially because of my touring band, that less is WAY more, and luckily enough for me in this situation... less SOUNDS like a lot more than it is... the sound guys are gonna love me on my big run I have coming up in the end of August... "Oh my stage volume is too loud?, here's take this cord, plug it into your board"..."Oh your PA isn't strong enough to mic all the guitars and bass, no worries, ::cranks poweramp volume::, I have it under control"

Nice!

I was always 100% satified with my Axe Standard, as well. Kept some tube amps around, but it's a great unit...As a matter of fact, I'd rather play the Axe than the vast majority of "real" amps out there.

Happy New Gear Day :D
