NGD: Gibson Content!

Got a great deal on this thing on Ebay... they have discontinued the Desert Burst a couple times for us lefties... I thought the top was incredible looking... to be perfectly honest though it just plays like shit LoL, the nut is cut way too high, the guitar is wired backwards, the fretwork is less than stellar, just meh... we lefties don't have the luxury of playing before we buy so sometimes it just takes a few tries to get it right... not even sure if I'm going to keep it yet or not but wanted to show it off a bit!

Haha... ya I had the serial number and everything checked out with Gibson before buying it.... and it came from a reputable store that will take it back if I want, not a big deal...

Haha, no Rez... it's a custom build by Skerveson guitars... company out of Poland... they are pumping out some SERIOUS quality stuff as of late... when I commissioned this they were just starting out and were ok with doing the Blackmachine-esque headstock... though it's obviously a bit different, I had them do a slight flair on the shorter side so it can be hung from a guitar stand, and they weren't comfortable with doing an exact copy... but now they refuse to make another as they don't want to be seen as a company that makes copies... it's an INCREDIBLE guitar though, only other guitar I've owned aside from my JP6 that literally has the strings laying on the frets almost and still sounds incredible, it literally plays itself...

I had an REALLY awesome tech for years that worked for Gibson for 20+ years... he was the only guy I trusted with my guitars... the only other tech around here is the hack at Guitar Center that charges $45 for a string change and setup...

Plus I'm a bit odd in the fact that if a guitar doesn't really play good stock I don't want to fuck with it too much... but maybe I should give it a shot... anyone have any luck with finding decent luthiers on Craigslist? LoL...

Shouldn't need a luthier. Seriously, I've said this before and I'll say it again - there are indeed lemons out there in the world of guitrs, none the least of which can be Les Pauls. But in my HMBLE opinion, 90% of them can be saved and brought back to KILLER players with proper set up and work. The most important is neck, action and nut. After that? Anything goes (tuners, fret polish, pups, electronics, etc). If the body is shit wood and the neck warped, no can do - she's a lemon. But if not, I swear, 90% of them can go from zero to hero in a matter of a few hours of knowing what to do.

IMHO, YMMV.
