With all the news of the 2013 Traditionals breaking, I took the opportunity to go guitar shopping.

Yesterday in between guitar shopping I sold my Telecaster and Stratocaster for $1700 combined. I've come to realize I am a Les paul guy.

That left me with 2 Les Pauls at home, my wife said I needed a 3rd guitar for Feng Shui reasons.

She did not have to twist my arm hard.

I went back and tried all the Les Pauls in the store, R0, R7, Traditional 1960 Goldtop, Les Paul Traditional, Traditional Premium Plus?, Traditional Plus, and I threw in a 61 SG RI, and a New Tele for good measure.

None of them totally blew me away, they did not have any decent amps there, I finally found a Blackstar HT40 that served the purpose.

I kept running through all the guitars and the one that seemed the best was a 2012 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Plus in Chicago Blue.

It was marked down on Closeout for $1599, they would not honor my 15% coupon on top of the closeout.

After 8% sales tax I walked out with the guitar for $1727, not a screaming deal, but a very good deal on a Brand New Les Paul that looks, plays, and sounds really nice.

I know the reason I am not totally blown away by it yet is I have not restrung it with 9-42s, but it plays great with the 10-46s.

More reviews after my string swap.

I've got the same EXACT guitar and I love it. It's not chambered so it's a little heavy.... but it plays and sounds amazing with Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings. I took the pickguard off though and I think it looks even better. I also play it through a JetCity head! Cheers!

How does it compare to the Trad. Pro?

I just answered a similar question about how it compares to my R7 on another forum.

The Trad Pro and Trad are both great, I would take both over my R7, only because they are better for Hard Rock.
However the R7 is definitely a better guitar.

The Trad Pro I have is just a superb example, better than any other Les Paul I have played, except for my R7.

I would say, play Trads and Trad Pros, buy the one that feels and sounds best, no two will be the same.

It is weight relieved (nine swiss cheese holes), but not chambered, so it saves about a 1lb-2lb.

The 2013s are totally solid, if they use USA grade wood they will be heavy. 10+ might be common.

Love my Jet City

Is that a solid colour or a translucent blue?

It is translucent, but it is a dark blue, so hard to see the flame.

Very nice, congrats!

Thanks

Just got done restringing the new one with 9-42a....

IT RAWKS

I just played for well over an hour, all of my amps, all of my guitars, I finally have a simple, easily replicated rig that rocks hard.

Just waiting for my AB pedal to arrive.

It'd be hard for me to rock in that pink, bright room, but those are some nice guitars!
Conrats!

I almost got a Trad. Pro, but a friend of mine got one and although it sounded pretty good it just wouldn't stay in tune. The day before that I met with a fellow who had the same problem with his SG. For the price Gibson is asking, they sure could use better quality control, but that ain't nothing new is it.

Gibsons are a PITA to keep in tune, the angle of the headstock and something to do with the nut.

My Fenders stayed in tune much better.

SGs are worse then Les Pauls.

I tried a new stringing technique today, definitely better tuning stability, simple to do also.

Right? I'm used to crappy wood-panel walls, dim lighting, and the smell of smoke. That room looks like it's straight out of a home decor magazine!

Cool guitars.

I used to be condemned to our basement, it was a finished basement, guitar posters all over, weight lifting equipment, but always too hot or too cold.

My wife wanted to build on another bedroom upstairs, but it was too expensive, so I compromised and she built a loft.

She then decided I could use it as a guitar loft.

Of course, she got to choose the decor.
