So i got this gibson lp raw power from 06 on reverb. I bought it on a CC behind my wifes back, so you'll know she found out if you see it posted in the classified section in the next few weeks
lets hope that doesn't happen, cause she plays and sounds killer, and i really missed having a real LP around. Fat ass 50's style neck, smooth satin finish all over, nice grain, heavy but very loud and resonant, totally up my alley.

So i'm playing it, and i'm getting some noise from the emgs here and there, so i pop my head in the contol cavity and see this shit show from the factory!

look at all those big ass flakes of wood on both sides that weren't sanded or planed away.
look at those ice cold soldering joints!
some of the connections were wire twisted and shrink tubed with no solder at all, and very hastily done looking.

I already went through and reflowed solder, and cleaned it up, which cured the noise issue, but i just couldn't believe what i saw in there. Gibson QC in the 2000's was so all over the place, really makes the norlin era seem like the golden years.

Jim can we get some more pics please? That is one of the LP's that i always wanted.

This looks like someone installed those emg's after market. There is no way that Gibson would let that out of their factory like that.

That was definitely a Friday guitar

But seriously, I've had a couple with some flakes in the control cavity, never bothered me. The install job of the EMG's looks like it was done aftermarket, and I don't recall these guitars being offered with EMG's so I'm almost positive of that.

The raw power series came Stock with EMG. I think they started offering this model in 2004.

Ummmm....why is the ground connected? Someone didn’t know WTF they’re doing.

:aww: I really, really want to believe that did not come from the factory like that.

Never seen a Gibson with micro pots. Chibson maybe?

I agree. Like someone had it, changed out the pickups and played it, then slapped back in the EMG’s and sold it.

Makes sense to me. I've seen that done & actually bought a LP Studio back in 1999 that had the orginal pickups reinstalled by someone but were installed with the neck in the bridge & bridge in the neck.
