Warning: Hold on to your loafers! Gaudy 90's pastel graphics below!

I had the opportunity to purchase one of my holy grails last week. it was a tough financial choice sine I had to dip into my savings a little, but overall it was a great deal so I had to go for it. I snagged a somewhat rare and very collectable Ibanez JPM 100 P2 John Petrucci signature model. It is in impeccable condition. Barely any play wear at all, and zero fretwear.

I am not into the thin neck, shredder, trem thing much anymore. I have grown to love huge necks and stop tails, but this was something I have always wanted.

After taking it out of its case for the first time, I realized I had to do a lot of setup work to do. The action was pretty horrendous. The neck had a HUGE shim in it that was wayyy to big. It was also in the middle of the neck pocket so there was a large visible gap in between the neck and the neck pocket. So while I was putting on my usual D'addario 10's that I use on my 25.5 scae fiddles, I took out the shim and re attached the neck. After stringing it up and tuning it and adjusting the truss, I realized it did need a shim, but one of half the size. I dropped in a thinner shim, tuned it back up and bam, it plays great! I'm not really into the Ibanez thing like I used to be, but this one is really special. It is going nowhere! I have wanted one ever since I first saw one.

Part 2: Tone Comparison

Well there's something you don't see every day. I'd love one of those, a Voyager, and a puzzle piece.

Wow. I would commit unspeakable acts for a Petrucci sig. Always wanted one, never had the opportunity. Fantastic NGD!

I think these are the coolest Ibbies ever, congrats and glad you could get her into playing shape!

I was also thinking I have not seen one of those in a LONG time!

Man, I use to LOVE those Ibanez JPM's! I had a P2, P4, and a P90th at different times...great neck on those guitars! The P2 is not as rare as you may think though, as Ibanez did at least two separate runs on them. One in in the early 90's and one last run after doing the P4 run. I had bought a brand new P2 on the latter run. I remember seeing the value jump hard on those, right as John Petrucci left Ibanez. Before that, they didn't seem as sought after...I was able to pick up a brand new P4 for $750 from an Ibanez dealer. Within a year later, JP left Ibanez and the value surged. Sold mine after owning it for over three and half years for $1400. I'd say they were and still are my favorite Ibanez models.

Congrats, on getting yours!

Beauty of an axe. I picked up a P3 a few months ago - awesome guitar. Enjoy!

Congrats! I have a P1 in my collection. Always liked that Picaso graphic.

Nice. I just sold my P1 the other day. I used to have a P3 too.

Thanks guys! Very excited to have this one in my collection :) And thanks for watching!

I like it. i still love that live solo he did with it way back images and words tour. I have the cd and a bootleg cd of it

Just FYI, the Air Norton came with the screws facing towards the bridge from the factory on the JPM guitars.

Any time you can find one of those in great condition is a total score! Well done!
I am looking for one of the white/black versions in excellent shape. Maybe some day.

i always liked those. his instructional video sent me on a tone seeking excursion to try and nail down those clean sounds. i still LOVE that clean sound he gets.

can anyone tell me if the volume pot has a treble bleed cap, and if so, what value? i suspect 470pf, as my 770dx has that in there, and i LOVE the sound of it, it's really close to that clean sound when i back it down, aside from having evolutions in it.

I'll get back to you on that.
