I had been looking for a nice 80s or 90s superstrat for a long time and I sold my ESP Eclipse CTM yesterday for a good price. As you know reverb prices are really high for these USA Jacksons and I was ready to spend like 2000 euros for Jackson fusion when suddenly a local listing showed up - 1200 euros.. Long story short, I am the new owner of this beauty! All original 1997 SL1 - It plays like butter! I will have it set up / cleaned by my technician but man this is one of the best guitars I've ever played! I might go for another bridge pickup / I suppose this is the SD JB?
I am open to suggestions!

That’s beauty and a great deal at that price, write. Congrats!! I always wanted an SL1 too but never pulled the trigger.
Thx man - I had a bikini soloist but I sold it because I wasn't fond of that graphic ! But man those guitars are sick! The fretboard/ neck is to die for!

Awesome. Never seen that color on a Soloist. I’d love to have a Soloist some day. I think to this day, the Soloist is the most comfortable guitar I’ve ever played.

In the pup, knowing what you don’t like about it would help us offer replacement suggestions. Be sure to raise/lower it and adjust the screws before you decide to dump it. It may just need some adjustment. If you don’t like the core tone, then that’s a different story.

Very nice! Good price too! I also have had the desire for a real Soloist for some time, but I'm not paying what people are asking these days.
Exactly! Crazy prices!

I agree! One of the most comfortable guitars ever! Well I mainly play 80s / 90s thrash - some death . I am looking for a tight and powerful tone - not interested in cleans. I am pretty much used to EMGs but I was thinking of trying one of these - X2N / Nailbomb/ Black Winter

The soloists I’ve owned came with Duncan Customs-sounded very good so left well enough alone. The last one was a 1990 Eerie Dess non swirl…had the mid boost circuit which was nice.
Congrats! They are great guitars

Heard that. I can’t offer any advice on those pickups. I’m a moderate/low output guy. I like what I’ve heard of those Black Winters, though. Good luck with the search! I’d play with the pup and screw height a good bit before you chunk it. Can make a big difference.

Thx man! Yeah already did that - it's not tight but it's good for 80s stuff!

Thx dude! Great guitars indeed! My bikini beach soloist had the mid boost circuit and I kinda liked it!

I haven't got to try a 80s/90s Jackson , Ive heard its a great era of guitars. Not to get off topic but the new and used prices for more recent Jackson USA guitars is nuts. Ive owned a few and played a bunch of the more recently built guitars. There are some really great playing and sounding ones out there but a lot of them aren't that great, not to warrant the cost. Just my opinion though. for the 4-5k range newer ones sell for there are other brands that make a more consistent guitar. Jackson seems to be all over the place depending on whoever is working at the time when your build comes up.

I have a set of EMG RetroActive Hot 70s in my 90s SH-1 and really like them, they're a little bit fuller than the usual 81/85 sound but all the nice predictable high-test EMG goodness is intact and they will still thrash all night. The tone knob has a super useful taper, you have to roll it pretty much all the way off to get muddy, from like 4 on up it's more like sort of a sweepable treble boost.

Jackson guitars have always been a favorite. I had a 2000 CS KV1, 2010 CS Dominion, QTY 3 2000-2003 Y2KVs, 1997 Dinky Reverse and a 2010 SS Dominon. All were amazing.

And….awesome SL1 BTW
