So, I'm not a fan of offsets.

I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to guitars- love the single cut design, the tele shape is cool, and it's hard to beat a strat body. Everything else- meh.

BUT...

I was looking for something different his time around. Something a little out there, something bit more in your face.

After trawling pretty much every site know to man for a few weeks I found a Kauer Banshee on GC's used section listed as good condition for a really nice price. I've always admired Doug's work and thought that maybe someday I would have one his guitars, but there urge to actually buy one had never really hit me.

Until I saw the finish. I had to have it

It showed up Saturday, but I really didn't really have a chance to spend some time with it until today. Gave it a good cleanup, conditioned the fretboard, new strings and a basic setup and holy sh*t- this thing is a BEAST!

Resonant, lightweight, and full of attitude. The Kauerbuckers are voiced perfectly and after messing with it for it bit it plays great. The finish is hard to capture in photos, but it's just beyond cool in person.

Behold- the Purple Nurple!

Wow, thanks for sharing it with us. I have never seen a guitar this before.

Looks fantastic, I was hoping you’d make a NGD post when you said it was incoming.

Enjoy! I’m excited to have some time off over the holidays to enjoy mine.

Steve Urkel's Purple Nurple :D

So, things got a little more interesting with the history of the guitar.

While in good shape the guitar did have some nicks and dings consistent with an instrument that had been well used in its two year life, but it was also obvious care had been taken with the setup and maintenance.

It arrived in a well-worn flight case with “EODM-Rex” written on gaffer’s tape along with a number.

I did some research, and it turns out the guitar belonged to Rex Roulette who was a touring member of the Eagles of Death Metal.

I took a shot in the dark and texted the number on the gaffer’s tape. Within minutes I got a response from Rex who confirmed he was the original owner and he had done a world tour with it! He had sold the guitar a while ago to help raise money for a friend and had lost track of it.

We had a really nice exchange, and he was kind enough to send a couple of pics of the Kauer in action.

Pretty cool!
