I ordered a Flat black Wild Card from Curt. Waiting on the Fedex guy to show up, should be here today.

I am going to have it cut for a single coil in the neck. What do you guys think would be a good match for the neck? It has a JB in the Bridge?

Also not sure which style neck rought to get. I guess it may depend on the pickup I choose.

Thanks,

B

Got the guitar. Looks and plays great. I expected nothing less, can't wait to mod this bitch.

Props to curt for great customer service!

No opinions on single coils?

You never even told us what kind of sound you're going for... You didn't even tell us if you want a humbucker style sound or single coil style sound.

Sorry ! ;)

I am looking for a single coil sound but would like hum canceling. But a little hotter than normal strat.

I have used the stk1s in my soloist, but would like something a little hotter.

I will post pics tonight !

for real strat neck tones that are humbucking I really like the Dimarzio Area pickups - whichever one meets more the description you're looking for.

Try the STK-S6 if you want a Duncan. It's a hum-canceling SSL5. I have an SSL6 (which is an SSL5 but without the staggered pole pieces), and it's hot enough for leads, yet still has that single coil tone going on. For DiMarzio, I'd look into the Virtual Solo for a nice kick in the ass.

A little hotter than normal strat:

Dimarzio Virtual Solo--205 mV--may be a little dark
Dimarzio Virtual Vintage Heavy Blues 2--170 mV--AWESOME pickup (I use it)
Dimarzio Cruiser Neck--140 mV--VERY authentic strat sound w/Hum cancelling
Dimarzio Air Norton S--280 mV--hotter than most, but a great sounding pickup--great for rock solos.
Dimarzio Fast Track 1--191mV--like a more powerful Cruiser

Check the EQ curves and see which one best matches the sound you're looking for. Also, check the "Reviews" section here on Jemsite--there are sound clips of many of these pickups to help you decide.

Cheers,

Race

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have been looking at the Dimarzios anyone tried this one.
The HS-3

This sounds like a good choice.

Here are a couple pics as promised.

The HS-3 is the exact opposite of what you're looking for. The output is ridiculously low.

I think you should follow suit with the rest of your collection and rout it for a humbucker. I had a H+S guitar for a long time and I spent a lot of money trying to find a single coil pickup I liked that mated well with the bridge pu, never did find any I liked and eventually I got a new H+H body. I do a lot of solos on the neck pu and I like them to be loud enough that I don't have to step on a boost at the same time I switch to that pickup. The higher output rail ones I tried sounded like a crappy humbucker.

The Area 61 sounds great just wondering if it will be hot enought not to see a big volume drop.

Wait.. You just bought that beautiful guitar and you're thinking of routing the fucker for a neck pick up.

Wait up.. why didn't you just get a guitar with a neck pickup?

I love what you did with the 2 hum, black San Dimas. That makes it look like a real deal old one or a custom shop one. My black one has been modded too.
