NGD need pickup help!

ok so I FINALLY broke down and got a strat. I have had the hole in my soul for so many years now... my first REAL guitar was an 82 strat that was routed for a Kahler. I played that thing so hard but ended up trading it straight up for a Charvel Model 6 neckthru....

so i got this yesterday...

American 1962 reissue... so good of a deal i could not pass it up....
Alder body
Maple neck
Rosewood fingerboard
American Vintage pickups
3-way switching (retrofit parts for 5-way included)
Original synchronized tremolo (ashtray cover included)


love it but man it is going to need some different pickups for the bridge at the very least.

does anyone on here have any suggestions for a nice single coil that would sound good thru the QR and the Nitro?

any help is appreciated!

For a pickup, maybe look at the Dimarzio YJM stacked single coil for the bridge. Those really love Marshall type amps.

All the dials and pickup covers look really white for a 60's reissue. They actually look brighter than the pickgaurd!
I suggest removing them and letting them soak in a hot cup of coffee together for 2-4 mins. That will age the color of the plastic real nice. I did this recently with my vintage insipired HWY1 Strat. Very cool end result.

Are you looking for a modern or vintage sounding pickup?

I have some Fender cobalt noiseless SCNs in one of my strats and I like them, but they are a little too modern for my tastes. So I am trying to figure out what to go with, there are so many options.

i am looking to keep the tone of the strat but beef it up a bit.. since this is a 62 reissue, my understanding is that the pups are a little weaker... dunno for sure on that though...

love the 80's metal tone obviously with the Splawns in house..

So I guess something a little fuller, more bit, bottom and agressive..

The Fender fat 50`s seem to get a lot of love, I believe troublehead here just got a set of those.

well for those of you who like Rio Grande Pickups, I just installed the RailGunner.

its the smaller version of the BBQ for Strats.. Humbucker in SC format..

Duncan cool rails, I dont think they have any more bite than stock, but they are a little hotter, much better bottom, quieter, and still sound like a strat

so far the Rio Grande Railgunner is working for me..

so the Strat keeps it's tone but adds a lot of growl and widens it out...

a very nice pickup... and it does have the characteristics of the BBQ

Have you tried to split the pickup?

A buddy of mine has a JB Jr. in his strat and says he prefers the hot rails in my strat. The SD hot rails splits pretty well, but sure hums when you have it split, more than I expected even for just then having one coil.

Duncan quarter pounder is good, but for a more traditional look, the Duncan Strat Custom SSL5 is absolutely incredible.

SSL5 - SSL1 - SSL1 is just about the perfect strat setup.
