Just got my Axe Fx II in today ! Thank you to Tone Merchants and Fractal Audio. Going to play and set it up at church tonight so I'll hopefully have some good sounds for tomorrow morning. Haven't had a new gear day in years so this was really exciting to have show up at my door. I'll post a review in a few weeks to give it a fair chance. I'll most likely be running it with a mackie hd or the atomic mb-50. Haven't decided yet. I get to meet Periphery tomorrow too and hopefully play some of their gear ! It's just been a really good weekend so far. Have a good one guys.

So I'm updating this post since I saw Periphery on Sunday. Holy crap was that an amazing show. The tone they had was just insane, I don't understand some of the axe fx bashing that goes on in any forum. On another note I'm blown away by the Axe Fx II. I went to one of the dry amp presets added a tape delay and some plate reverb and there it was. Great tone to play with Sunday morning at church. This week I'll get to spend some more time dialing other presets but I know for sure I'm going to try and dial in that awesome rhythm tone Misha uses. The only amps I would really love to see them add is maybe a Diezel Hagen and Herbert. I'll hold off for a few weeks until I write up a decent review of the unit.

Definitely sounds like an epic week! Happy NAD sir!

Thanks ! The Axe has exceeded expectations, I don't know anything about the Ultra or Standard but the II is killer.

grats =) sure a lot of people will be jealous

from what i've seen and heard the Axe FX if running straight through a PA is quite dependent on the quality of the system you're running through, and having the stage presence of air being moved through a cab is maybe something else too, if like me you're really used to having amp+cab

at a local venue i've seen quite a few Axe fx using bands (born of osiris and AAL ), which to me didn't necessarily sound too good because of the aging PA, but on the same evening bands with a full backline of amps sounded much better

however at the venue i work at, After the burial had one of the hugest live tones i've ever experienced, same goes for BTBAM crisp/precise , and great tone

I'm still intrigued by the Axe, it's just quite a hefty investment which inevitably will be obsolete in a few years or so for the next gen that is even more 'realer' sounding as they say and even closer to a tube amp , which makes me think why not use a tube amp ;) but depends totally on what you use it and need it for, would really like to test drive one for a few days in a band environment but i don't many people here that own one

in any case, enjoy =)

The Axe Ultra and Standard still sound great and are used live and in studios by many people. They have been out for 5 years and are not even close to becoming obsolete. Something that genuinely sounds great today doesn't stop sounding great tomorrow. Some think the Mesa Mark V sounds better than the IV, but that doesn't make the MarkIV obsolete.
I welcome something coming along that will make the current Axe Fx units obsolete because that would only mean that the tones and effects would have to be so awesome that it would be a major win for us all, and tube amps would be relegated to vinyl record, tube television, cassette tape status ( which is basically inevitable anyway)

well i guess the term obsolete is a bit harsh, used to using IT tech words heh

i think the older units do indeed sound great, even just for effects alone , i am curious how they will be looked at in 10 years time, i'm not even sure how much better sounding effects can get at this stage
