I called my buddy at my local guitar store (local not chain) who is a PRS dealer yesterday to ask about an amp and he offered me this 594 for a deal that I couldn't refuse. Apparently, someone ordered it but backed out or something. This guitar is quite a bit different than the great majority of the other guitars that I own because of the Pattern Vintage neck. It sounds amazing. I love this thing.

Funny how much it reminds me of a Les Paul. I have decided to coin a new phrase. Les Paul Reed Smith 594 :D

Man... that's a hard question to answer because I freaking love all of them. If you asked me what my favorite guitar out of all of my guitars is, I would say the EBMM Siberian Sapphire Majesty so let's put that one to rest. The second would be my beat up American Deluxe Strat.

As far as the PRS, the three that I play the most often are the Sig Ltd Custom 24, my Mark Holcomb and the S2 Standard 24 but I also like the Artist CU22.

I played in bands for 26 years off and on (mostly on). I haven't played in a band since November 2006 when I quit to move to Charlotte. I had a couple of decent pieces of gear over the years but it was mostly hobbled together stuff that I got for a deal here and there. My business has really taken off nicely over the last couple of years and for the first time in my life, I could afford some nice gear. So, here I am now. I have gone way overboard and just have bought way too much stuff that will likely never see a single gig. So now I call myself a collector. It's a nice excuse. It's really that I have either bought stuff that I always wanted and could never afford OR stuff like this 594 that I got for a crazy deal because I had the money and the person that sold it to me knew that I could and would likely buy it.

Ultimately, it's turned into a hobby. An expensive hobby for sure... but I don't mind, really, and neither does my wife. All of my bills are paid before I spend a dime. It could just as well be an old sports car. I am 47... I see them all as investments because I got most for below market and some will grow in value, I am sure.

I don't know how you guys feel about guitars... but to me they are all different and I love them all for their own character. Like different women. I am not monogamous either.

Happy NGD. How are you liking the toggle being up in the spot typical of Les Pauls? I always liked them being back on the body but I think it looks better up top. It just gets in the way of my right hand if I tap, curious if it works well for you. Beautiful axe

After playing this guitar for 30 minutes last night and about an hour today, I would say this guitar is less like any PRS that I have played and more like a Les Paul all around. I think the neck is carved different or smaller radius. It sounds like a Les Paul, to me. I have owned quite a few Les Paul's over the last 5 years only. I never played a gig with one. I only played at home. So, that is the breadth of my experience... but I have an ear and Les Paul's have their own tone. PRS has never had a guitar that sounded like this - even other McCarty models were not really close, that I have ever experienced. That also may be because I never had a McCarty with PAF pickups in it.

So, that brings me to your question about the toggle. I am much more used to the 5 way slider as I have been a strat guy all of these years. It may be why I did not like the Les Paul's that I bought as much combined with the weight. I have scoliosis and my back is curved right between my shoulder blades. The weight of the Les Paul would make me have a muscle spasm in my neck. The lighter strat style guitars never did that unless I played for a really long time straight - that did happen a few times.

I have had my Majesty for about 2 years. When I have been playing it, for quite some time, I like to mix the piezo and the magnetic pickups in parts. I really like this for blues, primarily. The switch for that it right in the same spot as on this PRS and the Les Pauls. Right in then play arch. I didn't find myself thinking about it that much as I was playing... so it's not an inconvenience. I haven't played it long enough to see if I prefer it.

I can say this... I am really not used to this neck but the bends seem easier on it. The guitar sounds freaking amazing... After playing it, I am wondering why I never connected with the Les Pauls. This guitar is only 7-8 lbs I would guess. Maybe that is the difference.

That's a pretty guitar. HNGD!

I saw one in blood orange, and I have unbelievable GAS for it. :worship:

Thats a killer guitar, I love McCarty's and that one looks like it would be fantastic.
I like the neck pups, but changed out the bridge on all of mine. I use the neck pup split all the time for clean stuff.
Love the tailpiece and TOM bridge
