Review: VHT FB 4x12, vs Deliverance 4x12
Just thought I would give my rundown on the FB cab, vs the Deliverance cab. Picked up a used one from GC, arrived the other day. Only amp I've used so far with it is my Diezel Herbert, as my Ultralead is at the shop for some noise issues. What is immediately apparent about this cab is how beamy/directional it is. It sounds much smaller than my Deliverance 4x12 when standing off to the side, however stand back back about 10 feet and you get this ridiculous thump and kick in the face. The thump on it is quite ridiculous, it really does pack a wallop, and stays EXTREMELY tight. It is very in your face, you really have to hear it to see what I am talking about. It rattles the floor on Palm mutes, and you can feel the ground shake beneath you alittle, no joke
It stays uber tight, no noise, rattles, farting out, NONE. Compared to the Deliverance, the Deliverance offers much more sub bass frequencies, and is much more 3d, and bigger sounding. It really is amazing to me how 2 cabs with the same exact speakers, in 2 front loaded cabs can sound so vastly different. The general tone is the same sure, but the Deliverance has alot more feel, is MUCH bigger sounding, and fills the room more. It is warmer sounding I guess you could say due to its huge deep sub bass. It is not near as directional, however it will take your head off, and stays tighter than almost every other cab on the planet. It is still insanely tight, but with a bigger sub bass frequency bottom end, something the fatbottom doesn't deliver. I found that I had to reduce the bass on my herbert with the Deliverance, as it almost had too much bass with the same settings on the fatbottom. Something else I found, I felt I had to turn the gain up more on herbert when running through the fatbottom, vs running through the deliverance. The fatbottom does come off as slightly "dryer" I guess you could say...kinda interesting
All in all, they are both great cabinets, and definitely my favorite. At first, I liked the Deliverance more with the herbert, as they are both tighter than hell, but the Deliverance seems to just fit the herbie better, as the herbie is more like the Deliverance 4x12 than the fatbottom I guess you could say
But now I'm not so sure. I haven't played my Ultralead thorugh the fatbottom cab yet, so cant decide yet which head will be played through which for the stereo rig. That is all carry on
