Got this guitar on Saturday. Ibanez S5470TKS Prestige. I can't lie, I've been as giddy as a school girl since. It is an absolute masterpiece in all regards. The Super Wizard HP neck is insane, the ZR2 trem is ingenius, and it is just an all around impressive piece.

One-piece mahogany body in black burst finish. Not a single flaw to be found. The strip that looks like binding is actually just an area that was masked during finishing.

Five piece maple/walnut neck with alternating cut orientation, titanium reinforced. Ultra thin carve profile with a 16.9" radius rosewood fretboard and jumbo frets. Plays like butter.

If you haven't played one of these before, I highly recommend it. Aside from the brilliant overall fit & finish and the playability, it sounds great. Bridge pickup in particular is gorgeous--puts out remarkable crunch and overdrive tones. Very balanced with just the right amount of high mid and treble frequencies. Amazing guitar!

I friggin LOVE those trems, man. Those are what Floyd Roses should be.

Definitely. I've avoided using trems typically, because I just never liked the way they felt. The ZR2 is rock solid and I'm really digging the tight feel.

The cool thing is that you can actually alter the feel of it pretty considerably based on how you set it up. Being a bit of a tweak-a-holic with gear, I've played with some varying configs and discovered that there are all sorts of possibilities. What a cool piece of engineering!

How are those different than the first version zero trems? I tried an S7 with one and it dropped pitch (about 25 cents) during palm mutes.

The zero point system prevents the typical tuning issues that you can run into in instances like that. There is a stop bar that presents a counter-resistance of sorts to the tremolo. When you dial it in just right, you get a "zero point" that requires more force to sway from. It's dialed in with fine adjustment between string tension and trem spring tension. It becomes ideally stable when the trem is resting right against the stop bar with the strings in tune. So hitting the strings hard, palm mutes, etc. won't present tuning issues.

Thanks for the info.

Awesome looking axe Craig! Of all Ibby's body styles, I like the S the best, far and away.

When you're ready to flip it, give me a shout. I have a Les Paul I'd be willing to work with you on... ;)

Thanks, Jeff. I feel the same way. You'll have to pick on this thing a little this weekend! ;)

  I don't foresee getting rid of this guitar.

craig, nice !
j-custom line ?

that bar is access from the back plate ? similar to a trem stop thinging ?

Won't break my heart a bit Craig ;) BTW, I know you have Johnny Hiland coming and going there, but I have a bunch of EBMMs here, a Petrucci, couple of Axis Super Sports and Silhoutte Specials, plus the 20th Anniversary and 25th; want me to bring any for you to try out?

I passed over this thread a few times, never clicking it. This morning, I clicked it.

Damn fine looking guitar Craig. Glad you're lovin' it. Looks exceptionally fine - but then - I'm starting to see a trend with highend Japanese guitars. They're remarkable at every level.

Enjoy.

It's not a J Custom, it's a Prestige. So it's made at the "Team J Craft" shop in Japan, but not the J Custom line.

The bar is not a trem stop. It is essentially a stabilizer. There is travel in both directions with this trem, but when set up ideally the trem consistently rests at the zero point when not being used. The bar can actually be removed as well, which gives the system the feel of a traditional floating tremolo, only a bit smoother because of the ball bearing system as opposed to the traditional knife edge.

That'd be cool! Bring your favorite!
