So, I've recently been in the process of spec'ing out an S-style guitar with a 3-TITE configuration in order to get quotes and lead times from Anderson and Suhr. I was talking to a buddy about it a few weeks back and he sent me a link yesterday to a guitar on Gbase that he thought was a very close match to what I told him I was looking to have built. It was...I bought it.

I've really been digging single coils over humbuckers for some time now so I'm excited to put this one through its paces. Review will be coming once it gets here.

Can anybody comment on the pickups in this axe (JS Noise Free Singles)? I know next to nothing about Suhr pickups.

That's what I'm talkin about. I could see owning that Suhr.

Nice looking guitar! Reminds me of Charvel.
Good call...a 3-TITE version of this is exactly what I was going for when I was spec'ing out a custom oder:

The guitar arrived yesterday. I tuned it up, plugged it in, and lost the next 3 hours :D
Simply incredible. I was a wee bit concerned about it as most of the Suhrs that I've played, although nice guitars, didn't quite have the liveliness and response that I've come to appreciate with my Anderson. I decided to take the chance seeing as the spec was so close to what I was considering ordering...if it didn't make the grade I planned to just flip it.

I won't be flipping it :) I don't know if its the hard tail or simply the overall sum of the parts, but this thing just feels "alive" even when its not plugged in (much like my Anderson). The soft V neck shape was another slight concern but I absolutely love it...I felt at home on it immediately. Its very much like a C shape with slightly sloped shoulders...love it.

The JS Noiseless single coils sound, feel, and respond great, but I'll reserve final judgement on them for after I gig with it. The combo of a maple top on an alder body essentially sounds like swamp ash to me...its a little brighter/more scooped than typical alder but still very full sounding. The mid-boost basically takes you into humbucker territory...I was nailing Gary Moore "Still Got the Blues" tone with it engaged.

Anybody know what the fretboard guard is there for (I know, protect the fretboard)? What's gonna happen in the case that calls for one of these? For about half a second after I opened the case I thought I had a fretless ebony neck

Very beautiful guitar, congrats!

I just wanted to comment on the Suhr JS noisefree singles, since I have these on my custom Suhr standards and have a lot of experience with them. They are actually made by DiMarzio and are wound to John's specs. Here is an old thread about them from the Suhr forum: http://www.online-discussion.com/Suhr/viewtopic.php?p=31592&sid=f6a13a28c267ad7eaf3416379e816aa8

When Suhr guitars first started in the 90s, the pickups they were using were made by DiMarzio. Eventually they started making their own pickups that we all know about today. The JS noisefree singles were already in place before the SSC system came about, but when the SSC system was introduce, they still kept the JS noisefree singles in the lineup as an OEM offering only.

The (N/M) stands for neck/middle and the B stands for bridge. Several years ago I contacted DiMarzio's tech support to inquire about there pickups and here is the response they gave me:

"They are based on the VirtuAl 2 neck model, which we discontinued several tears ago. The closest current model is the Area '61 (DP416)."

I was also told by DiMarzio that the bridge version of these pickups was similar to the Virtual Vintage Blues model. Reb Beach uses these pickups on his non-EMG equipped guitars. If I'm not mistaken, I believe he used the bridge version in the neck for more output.

The vast majority of Suhr users seem to prefer Suhr's Landau, V60, or V60LP single-coils, but I really like these JS noisefree singles. To my ears the N/M model that I have in all of my Suhrs sounds fantastic and compare to a set of DiMarzio Area 61s I have in a Tom Anderson Classic.

Hope that helps! :)

Nice guitar ya got there. Quite lustable. Do ya sit and look at it after playing it? That's love....

Very cool, thanks for the info! They sound great to me but I haven't played them in a band context yet...will be doing that tonight.

In the meantime, I gave them all new hats ;)

HNGD looks great, congratulations. Cool when you can pretty much find what you were wanting to get built for sale and not have to wait for it. I usually like a Floyds but I bet the hard tail with the strings thru the body is why it speaks to you in the tone department ;) Beautiful flame and I love the natural binding look. Is the mid boost thingy useful?

But isn't it just silly to buy a $2,000 guitar when you have your superior $600 strats? :D ;)

The mid-boost is killer!!! I figured that I'd never use it but its awesome...basically puts me in humbucker territory. I pretty much nailed Gary Moore's "Still Got the Blues" lead tone with it which will allow me to leave my Les Paul at home now. I'm anxious to try it out tonight in a full band setting.

The string-through bridge is great...the guitar rings like a bell when unplugged, very much like my Anderson Hollow Classic (except the Suhr is solid). Very lightweight and resonant at just over 7 lbs.

Damn, that's a big tree Rupe!

Nice fiddle too.
That tree is a monster...and I have another one next to it that's even bigger! I'm sure one of them will end up on my house someday :scared:
