Just picked up a brand new Pegan Gold Charvel So-Cal. Cool guitar, but the action is not what I was hoping for and the whammy range is pretty limited. Has anyone routed one of these after the fact to recess the trem? If so, how did it work out?

Nice So Cal, that color is killer! I don't know anyone who has routed their trem cavity, only those who have installed trem-blockers to help with tuning stability (which totally doesn't do what you're looking for, heh). Personally, I think to recess the Floyd on this would be a shame, but customization is what it's about if the guitar you buy doesn't quite match what you're looking for. Keep it as-is though, they still pull-up a little if needed.

Something tells me that it is not set up correctly. My SoCal has low action, the neck has been stable for well over a year, and before I blocked the trem there was plenty of range available.

Congrats, love that color.

I had a Floyd recessed on a guitar a long time ago and the results weren't good, by doing that the neck angle will not be correct any more...you can adjust the neck pocket accordingly. Make sure you use smaller screws. My opinion-I wouldn't mess with it.

I'm also not sure what the exact problem is, obviously you aren't going to be able to pull the bar up much but you should have plenty of downward travel unless there is a big ass brass tremolo block getting in the way.

I was looking for a little more range for pull up. In order to get the action where I wanted it, the base plate of the bridge was nearly in contact with the body. I actually just sold the guitar. I loved the way that it felt and played, but I wasn't a fan of the jack placement or the aforementioned bridge situation. I'd also like a little more room in the heel and lower horn area. I am going to correct the things that I didn't like about it by doing a parts build, but I'll be using another pro mod neck. And there will be more Pagan Gold in my future. Love that color on this style guitar.

All you needed to do was shim the neck which will allow you to raise the trem off the body and get the action back where you need it. That's very common on these guitars. As far as pull up, you'd need to use a Dremel tool and remove a little in the block cavity. No biggie.

Yep, I agree. I had my SoCal routed so my brass block would float. It is a very nice guitar for the money especially when you upgrade the pickups.
